Already in the thread. Part Four: Results. In the emails that have permission granted you reply and also ask if they can email their confirmation to an email address which Tass gets.

You don't have to translate a song, you can keep it in the original language and just step that (See: I Am Maid). If you want to translate it then it's your choice but it's not mandatory.

and that you shouldn't try getting permission from a site in a foreign language that you don't understand?
Why should I even say this? Why is this even relevant? Why does it matter if you understand it or not? If you like it and it is steppable then that's all that really matters.

I think he means you won't be able to get permission but I disagree. And also I think he means the translation of the email. Not sure though, hard to tell what he was getting at.

I mean, if there's a Japanese artist you want permission from just ask jimerax to send them a request, as he takes requests.

I have had this problem though. There are some Italian bands I'd like permission from but hell if I can speak Italian and if they don't know English they will, most likely, just not respond. Doubt they'd give permission but whatever. (Andrea Quartarone, so awesome)

The link to the list of artists works now.

It might be helpful to hint to the artist that supplying a BPM for their songs (if applicable) and providing cuts of songs so that the length falls within 1:30 to 3:00 will help generate a lot more interest for their music among the stepping community.

hi19 - Personally I think getting permission is hard enough, so focusing on getting that first would be best.

Once you get permission by all means try to ask for the BPM and whatever else, depends on how much of a rapport you build up with the person you are emailing. If they seem friendly and whatnot then it's great. If they seem reluctant yet still give permission then I would call it a job well done and be thankful you got anything.

This is really cool TRD, well played. Only thing that I could think of as a way to improve it would be to separate it into sections better. Section 1: Important facts (need to know) Section 2: Working with Independents Section 3: Working with Labels. This way someone could easily go to one section and copy pasta every thing from there, instead of having to scroll slightly farther down the post. Not that this is necessary, but I would find it a little easier to use. Bolding the titles really helped so good choice with that. Once again, everything looks pretty good here.

Cheers man, whatever helps FFR get more permissions really.

I see what you're getting at. It's a good suggestion and I'll certainly check it out to see how it looks.

Keeping this up on page one. People seem to like it and it's more of a "read and use" thread than "read and reply" thread.

After using this for a while I started to feel like the first paragraph didn't really set things up as well as I wanted it to. As such I've changed it to the following:

Quote:
My name is (your name). I'm wondering if I could have a minute of your time to request permission to use (songs / whatever) in a free online rhythm game called FlashFlashRevolution. The website is www.flashflashrevolution.com.
I think it gets the point across better, not to mention "speaking on behalf of" sounded too much like a company bot and gave too much of an impersonal inflection on the email.

Hopefully this helps.

I personally think I'm going after too many high-profile labels, but hey might as well try.

Edited little bits of this again. Mainly removed a couple of paragraphs that I felt weren't helpful when contacting people. Mainly the "we love your music" parts, they seemed contrived when I read it. Though if you feel you can make it work then go for it.

So anyway, hope some people continue to use this and can get FFR some more permissions.

Thanks man, I've started to see it crop up a little more now. You and highandroid both got permissions using it so I'm happy.

I mean I would prefer this to be a sticky as I think it's useful enough, but I'm not about to try to keep forcing the issue. If I need to keep bumping it for people to see it then I'm fine with that. Main point is just that it successfully gets more permissions for FFR.
