It is a buyers marker here in Central NC. We closed 10K less than asking price AND got a few grand in escrow repairs/upgrades. Great time to buy a house

Housing prices depend on a whole host of factors. Sometimes it involves the housing bubble.

Not here

edit: Location says "Houston", but in the city I actually live in (Seabrook), the housing bubble didn't really effect prices.

I plan to buy land and build my house from scratch (my brother has connections with electricians and he works in ventillation and could help me set up that stuff, I'd do the architectural/construction stuff with some helpers).

I plan to be minimalist, not having things that aren't essential, but leaving room for things to be expandable. The theme will be a mixture of geometric abstract forms with segments/accents of organic and lively things.

the more you know from Spenner's future plans.

Yo Spenner, my father and I helped build a house over last summer (okay, I mostly dug trenches, poured concrete for foundations, and moved lumber around but still). If that's a plan for any time in the near future, feel free to hit me up. If you supply us with Captain and Coke, we will definitely be down to help you out. (o:

That's awesome. It prolly won't be till sometime down the road, but I'd be more than happy to give some supplies (glug glug) and pay for the help be forewarned for the day I start planning to build-- it'll be a bizarre house. Though not a huge one.

You guys will hear from me when the day comes

new brunswick (or canada for that matter) wasn't particularly hit hard by the recession at all.

houses aren't that bad though. usually looking at 150k for a small modest home.

Here in Oregon the housing market is cheaper than it used to be but still expensive compared to most of the country. Nothing like California though, lmfao.

I read recently that a 1500 sqft house that was recently remodeled sold in Oklahoma for under 50k.

This site has been a huge inspiration for me, browsing a lot of these/following the site for a few years now. I've been studying what goes into making a house that really conforms to my tastes but is practical to build/live in.

http://www.digsdigs.com/category/hom...house-designs/

Some of the nicest looking houses i've seen on there.

That's 75 years old with asbestos throughout that I won't find until after we're dying of mesothelioma or needs 20k worth of work or the bedroom ceilings are those slanted ones that anyone over 5'10 can't stand up in or the lot is sinking or there's not enough windows/facing wrong way or there's no shower (!!!) or the kitchen has half a counter and no room for more or there's no entryway so no room to put shoes and coats or blah blah blah. And there's no way in hell I'm building/designing a house, at least not right now. It would be double the price and 100 times the work.

There'd be quadruple the choice if we didn't mind driving everywhere. Guess I'm just picky.

Market took a shit here. Houses bought for 100k five years ago, you can find for 50k depending on the city. Some more some even less.

or because you live in the capital. because for 150k you can get a very nice house in any moncton suburb. not huge, but a nice modest place.

you're supposed to get places inspected before buying/selling them so mold and asbestos shouldn't be an issue
