May 21 2011
So, driving back into town today I saw a billboard saying that the Bible says that the world's gonna end on May 21 of this year. (Will post pictures later if I head back out of town again. Disregard that, my phone camera sucks ass.)
Did a bit of googling and apparently this is some kind of global thing. A lot of people seriously think (text - video)are that a man named Harold Camping has calculated that the flood of Noah happened on that same date in 4990BC, and that some other biblical-grade disaster would happen 7000 years from that date, which happens to be May 21 2011. Personally, I don't buy it. Various people have predicted various dates across the last hundred years or so that they believed would be the end of days. However, I think this is the first time in a while that such a prediction has received such a great following. Also, if I believed in a God, I would think that he'd prefer to keep the day of the end of the world a secret. What would be his purpose in telling the whole of humanity the day he's going to destroy everything? Anyway, I realize this is Chit Chat, but let's try to keep the discussion serious. I don't wanna read "lol bible is faek its all bs" ... I'd like to hear the input of christians, religious non-christians, and atheists.

Re: May 21 2011
According to Revelations, the "end of the world" is unknown to us, and only God knows when that will happen. Although there are signs(sort of) that the end could be near, it is still completely unknown to humanity when the end times will happen. This May 21st thing is a load of bullcrap.
And yes, I am a Christian.

Re: May 21 2011
I don't have a set religion, but this is interesting. I really don't think it will happen, though. 2012 is another big one, but that already gets tossed at us enough as it is. Speaking of which, I may read up on both of these...

I have heard a lot of these end of the world things and just just don't believe them.

But really.. The bible is fiction and it is all nonsense. Not to mention this prediction isn't in the bible. |

END IS NEAR. >:] hehe. Okay now in seriousness, do I believe it? No. There are so many different days that apparently so many things point at as the end of the world. My interest in this has died. :/ I guess some people just enjoy having some belief to latch onto. Also, I wonder what the obsession with the number 21 is.

Re: May 21 2011
Every day could just be the end of the world. Don't know why there should be specific dates for when the world is going to expire.

Re: May 21 2011
I read the article and watched the video. Its all stupid. They are taking verses from the bible, and then giving you this information that doesn't really have anything to do with the verse they give you. As a fully faithful Christian, I am offended that there are "Christians" out there spreading stuff like this. If people do become serious Christians because of this, that might be a good thing.(keyword: might.), but this is still stupid.
Well, at least it isn't as bad as the Westboro Baptist Church.

Re: May 21 2011
Okay so May of this year, 2012, 2029, and 2060. This is a load of bull. I'm Catholic and I don't even believe what the ****ing Bible says. God knows our fate, not scientists or priests of our time. I'ma laugh at everyone who believes this stupid prediction comes true. Just saying.

Re: May 21 2011
Every tragic event that happens/happened turns into a sign that it's "The End of The World". Ever notice that?

Re: May 21 2011
How can you be catholic and not believe what is says in the bible? You can't claim to be catholic if you don't believe in that organizations beliefs...
That's like me saying that I'm a Republican, but I don't believe in anything they stand for. |

Re: May 21 2011
I was baptized in a Roman Catholic church. I don't have to believe in the Catholic organization beliefs.

Re: May 21 2011
But we know that is not the case, as a slave could never have the joy of riding a pony.

Re: May 21 2011
If there really was a date known for the world to end I would still go about my daily routine and not think much of it.
If the unavoidable is going to happen, bring it on. Good luck wasting your time running around thinking it will save you lol

Re: May 21 2011
Imo, every religion has it's own theory of the world ending. Will we ever know our exact impending doom? No. It'll just come. Oh well. You cannot do anything about it.
