Misplaced songs
Well, I think that some songs are in the wrong genre.
Starwolf, for example, is a remix from a theme song in Starfox 64, it should be in Arcade, not Dance 2. And I think it's a bit weird for Beethoven Virus to be in Dance, considering bmv.578, which is much more dance-like, is in Classic.

Re: Misplaced songs
Both songs from Hideki Naganuma are also in the wrong category, they should be in arcade (trust me)
Too bad staff is nonexistent thus it won't get changed. (Which is what Kibblre is getting at) |

Re: Misplaced songs
actually I'm doing vaguely about genres, especially on those.
Arcade vs. Other Genres (due to the definition of arcade) Misc vs. Dance 1/2 (especially breakbeat/core ones) |

Re: Misplaced songs
Stuff like speedcore should be misc, Gabba kind of stuff can fall under dance. What about Anime?

Re: Misplaced songs
It's sad to read the first two pages of this topic - Jimerax is in charge with the organization of the genres and he's still definitely active.
That being said, I already have previously discussed the issue with jimerax on songs that truly belong in the arcade section. I'll further discuss it with him soon since the issue has been brought up again. |

Re: Misplaced songs
Chiptune =/= Arcade imo
Arcade for me would be strictly actual videogame music or arrangements not things that sound reminiscent of vg music. |

Re: Misplaced songs
Those are the facts I'm afraid, but what's so wrong about making a not-of-dire-importance thread anyway? This one's almost to four pages also, I'd give this thread about a 7.
Any thread can be fun. |

*There can be a few exceptions to this, such as the B4U remix song. It's one of the most recognizable DDR songs out there. |

Re: Misplaced songs
Well, I thought that any song from any game could be in Arcade.
Wow, and I'm really glad they cleaned this thread.

Re: Misplaced songs
Yeah, arcade is really vague definition of genre first of all and it should be changed to the name of actual music style (unlikely to happen though).
I was putting chiptunes in arcade because it's acceptable (cause I think it can also include "arcade-like music") and I don't want to put all songs that don't fit other existing genres very well in the misc. I think we should define (song style) -> (genre) relations to determine genres properly. ex) trance -> dance techno -> dance jazz -> misc noize -> misc breakcore/DnB -> dance? pops -> dance? also by current definitions, arcade -> "remix of major games" + "music played only with 8-bit/16-bit intruments" classic -> "actual classical music" + "music played only with classical instruments" |

Re: Misplaced songs
Actually, what about CSGS? Its not exactly dance music but I say it belongs in misc. What about Funk for Jazz? It does make sense. Though if you put Speedcore and Jazz into the same song group, that doesn't make ANY sense*. DnB can be put into dance if its stuff like cornandbeans, but noisecore and most likely hardcore techno should go in misc. Pops should also go in funk.
Regarding bmw.578, it does use classical instruments, but it is more techno than classical. I say its better off in Dance. Piano Concerto No. 1 (For Kirby) is a remix of a piano song. As far as I know, it sounds uh, Kirby-ish. But this song was used in a pad pack called Pop Candy 2. So it CAN be placed in Dance. Its not -that- piano-ish anymore. *I have speedcore music next to my jazz tracks in winamp.

Re: Misplaced songs
Bumping this thread, because I've just compiled a list (sent to jx) of potential arcade songs to be moved to a different genre. Most of them were either Touhou (apparently we have a ton of these songs) or songs that sounded video game-like without actually being derived from any particular game.
Expect some more feedback later. |
