Default Interest Check - Battlestar Galactica the Board Game

sup nerds

I was packing stuff for a trip I have coming up and one of the things I'm bringing along is a board game called Battlestar Galactica: the Board Game. Immediately the thought came across my mind was being able to play this game with some people here. There is a way to play this game online hassle-free. I am just posting here to see if anybody is interested in playing at all.

The game has elements of TWG/Mafia/Resistance/Whatever that are pretty complex and well done. The basic premise of the game is you are on a big ol' ship traveling through space trying to get to safe planet. You are crew members on the Battlestar Galactica and are doing everything you can to survive. You are running from a group of robots that you created. These robots are known as Cylons. Cylons are bent on killing every last human and are working against the players. However, Cylon technology is so advanced that the Cylons have made models of themselves that LOOK JUST LIKE HUMANS. These Cylons have infiltrated the crew and are secretly working against the others to make sure humanity doesn't survive.

During play, some of the players are informed that they are dirty, rotten Cylons. However, an interesting mechanic of the game is that there may be zero Cylons at the start. At the beginning and middle of the game, Loyalty (alignment) cards are dealt to the players and say "YOU ARE NOT A CYLON" or "YOU ARE A CYLON". At the beginning, only half are passed out, so the "YOU ARE A CYLON" cards might not be distributed. The other half are dealt at the halfway point in the game, and at this point, there are definitely Cylons in your crew.

Cylons have a variety of ways that they can screw with the humans secretly without full-on blowing their cover. One example is that one of the crew members is the Admiral of the ship. When the ship initiates FTL travel, they get to pick the destination they jump to. Destination cards have distance values of 0-3. The win objective for humans is to accrue 8 distance and FTL jump one last time to seal the deal. The Admiral, if they are a Cylon, can pick the worse of the two cards and resolve it, and the rest of the players may be none the wiser. (there is a way to have some check on this, but it's not always something that can be done if there are other bad things happening). There are plenty of other sneaky snake methods, but this is one big example.

If you want to see how the game is played, you can check out a video here:

This features the same online client we will be using to play.

You can also read the instruction manual here.

We could play the game over Skype, and we would only need 5-6 people to get a good game going. Time commitment is 2-3 hours if everyone knows what they're doing, so expect the first game to be a little longer while mechanics are explained and people get used to the game client.

Anyone interested?? If we have enough people we can try deciding on a date and time.
also the show is good too!!
