Re: Friday Talent Show FFR Setlist
I once played stepmania at a HS talent show years ago, quasar 1.5.. crowd went wild, some thought I was playing on autoplay, others gave me props and asked generic questions like "did you memorize that?" overall the cheer was worth it but only for one song.
some audience may lose interest after the first few songs with a mentality like "meh practice" but others will understand the concept and start their own experience with key smash who knows.. At least a good majority should have a general concept because of guitar hero/ rock band. As for the song list suggestion. 1.)Amefuri Koneko- Short, to the point. doesn't involve common themes that are injunction with the rest of said set-list. A good opener, In my opinion would involve something grace note oriented. Because of controlled sequences, rather than starting off what appears to be "random" notes. Plus, The song sounds similar to Going on spring wind. Which, in return could be saved for later. (1:55) 2.)Purple- Excellent song choice to introduce the use of streams in a note chart. Its short enough of a song were it delivers an idea, but ends like it could have kept going. That's when the next choice would carry the similar theme but now giving the prospective to endurance. (1:01) 3.)Gradeus- Classic chart. Has been around for years on this site, and Gives a clear image of a "pinnacle" like play-style. sorta on terms with 'the best it can get' type of deal. Which in prospective comes from the fact the chart pushes the 1k note boundary. Plus, Jump chains in a chart rule. (2:33) 4.)For FFR- At this point the crowd has seen everything. And you know what I mean, There's obviously some variety, but in the terms of an audience, Not really. IMO use this as a half time turning-point. Saving what appears to be the most difficult section for last. And give the image of a "wall of notes" (2:00) 5.)Ambient angels- This introduction of jump Stream will carry on the ending of For FFR's Momentum by insinuating that a wall of notes carries on for extended periods because the JS in that chart is dense enough to display as such. (1:59) 6.)Holy Orders-Not only is the Song great for a final choice, but the step chart itself throws in all the other elements into one colossal performance and That little feeling of climax towards the end would really add a nice touch to everything. The trills, colored note streams, almost everything about it seems good for a finale, Pushing to almost 3k notes is also a plus side. (4:20) Total Time- 13min 8sec~ Good luck! |

Re: Friday Talent Show FFR Setlist
Alternatively instead of having a range of difficulties you could just focus on longer, harder files. These one are pretty varied in their patterns and musical styles and would work together very well. Tenimuhou is probably my favorite song in the game right now.
Little God Ch@nnel - (4:16 / 4:16); Tenimuhou - (4:15 / 8:31); The Ordeal Becomes Great - (4.06 / 12:37); |

Re: Friday Talent Show FFR Setlist
Looks like I'm alone but I truly believe that you should only play one song, I've actually given this some thought myself and what I would do, and I really don't think most people will wanna sit there for 13 minutes to watch someone play this for a talent show. It'll definitely look good to them, but I also definitely feel like people will not want to sit there watching you play for such an extended period of time (think about other acts that you said people would be doing, singing/dancing will more than likely not take more than 5 minutes, if that). That being said, I saw AJ suggest Ambient Angels and would say that just playing that would be an AMAZING choice. Song choice is fairly critical because you don't want to play some pony shit and have people be all "wtf is this" and I don't think you should play any classical song just because there are those jerks who will think "yeah, go do that on a real instrument." But for Ambient Angels it's a very dance-y song and the vocals aren't high-pitched which I guess bothers some people? And it definitely gets harder as the song goes on which is great. Don't know if what I'm saying matters to you whatsoever xD But good luck with this, I probably wouldn't have been able to do this in front of school xP

which is why I wanted to play The Games we played. Many can relate to it, it's long in length, it's one inning, and there's something that hits you in different sections. Last edited by gold stinger; 04-17-2013 at 11:31 PM.. |

Re: Friday Talent Show FFR Setlist
Got in contact with my friend today at school and he agreed that he will try to record the performance with his phone tomorrow. So pumped for it.
You all still have time to voice your opinion on what you think would be the best setlist for the performance. Even if you want to debate changes to others setlists, I may just end up using that one instead and then both people will get some credits |

By the way, I hope it goes well. I always wanted to play FFR / SM live for people so i hope it goes well for you. As for a setlist: Ivaltek Four Blocks Maddness Dance and Zeal Gotta Catch 'Em All Undiscovered Colors Twister Not sure how that times out exactly but if I recall the length of each chart correctly, it times out to be less than 20 minutes. The idea that the songs gradually are getting more difficult to show off just how crazy but simple the game is. The other thing is that playing one chart, specifically The Games We Played could be tough considering the offset problem. Last edited by Xx{Midnight}xX; 04-18-2013 at 07:12 PM.. |

Re: Friday Talent Show FFR Setlist
One more list from me, no details for this one, just throwing ideas out now:
1: Intersect Thunderbolt 2: A FLOWER GARDEN (Really, play this file lmao) 3: Flight of the Bumblebee (As terrible as it'd be to play, you know the crowd would love it.) 4: Tenimuhou 5: Almost There

lol FFR loads a lot faster than my SM if I carried it around on a jumpdrive. Also, SM is a little bit too flashy and FFR would probably be less eye-straining. |

Re: Friday Talent Show FFR Setlist
yeah man I love having to connect to the internet to play a rhythm game that uses a terribly unoptimized flash engine, playing shitty newgrounds music and shitty files that barely scrape by the judges because everyone is afraid to say "your file fucking sucks"
