I'd say because you have the flexibility to do so with an IIDX controller, not to mention I've benefited from a not-so-strict setup myself. It's not the same as trying to be flexible with a computer keyboard.

If you're actually playing BMS with a computer keyboard, then I would suggest practicing a similar medium such as solo. As well as strengthening those ring fingers with songs that offer such patterns to practice on them.

there are players that wrist scratch and assign each button to a single finger that are absolutely ridiculous. so i would definitely not say to not do that when it works wonders

I kinda refuse to play that way though, dolce is the reason I started playing and he plays flexibly. I mean in the future I'll probably end up switching anyway but for now I wanna pass all the files "legit"

Seems like not many people like to play doubles...(sadface).

But anyways, for doubles at least a certain amount of flexibility is required, since it's impossible to do many patterns while always using the same fingers for the same keys. Like for the P1 side (left hand), I usually use:
1 Pinky
2 Ring
3 Ring
4 Middle
5 Index
6 Index
7 Thumb

But this isn't always possible. For example, to hit 2345 simultaneously, I would use middle, ring, index, and thumb, respectively. Or for awkward pinky-ring trills like 131313, I might use index and ring instead.

Breakdown plays doubles/7k one handed, and we don't have 7 fingers....

But the mentality applies here. if a 12121 fast trill appears, you don't want to use your ring/mid fingers. you can shift to say, index/mid as they are stronger. you have more liberty doing this with onehanded/14k play

for 7k 2handed play, its almost universal to use 1 finger per key for really hard chordstream/dense patterns. however where accuracy is concerned, freeform play is better; especially at certain patterns like trills and jacks. I'm not a freeform player though so I won't comment deeper than that

...I tried playing 14k on KB before, but can only manage up to IIDX 6s rofl

Breakdown16, if you go to Bemanistyle, see if you can find Trip Machina...I believe that user plays or used to always play doubles.

Played IIDX in the first time in forever (probably at least 2 years or more). I've got a skill drop so massive that I can't AAA anything at the moment lol. No improvements on anything I played, except for one really oddball score...

For those can play ★1 or higher on a KB, what does your keyboard config look like?
I am a BM user, on an ASC and might consider playing on KB when my hands are tired.

Also, I have a bit trouble understanding or feeling comfortable with LR2 HI-SPEED options, how do you usually determine what speed to use to have that "sweet spot"? What does the HI-SPEED number and SUD+ number mean? My speeds are usually,
SUD+ at 10
130 BPM = 320 HS
160 BPM = 290 HS
180 BPM = 240 HS

using my OADX+ skin, optimized for 16:9 display.

It's silly that when I played on a different skin, (LR2 super wide, screen stretched to 16:9), I was able to do..

180 BPM = 320 HS
130 BPM = 400 HS
160 BPM = 360 HS

Does skin matter?

My green number on IIDX is around 280-320, if that helps.

scratch,1234567
ASDF(spacebar)JKL
Left pinky, ring, middle, index || Right thumb, index, middle, ring

Most players use something similar to this setup. Mine is

(LShift)ASD(spacebar)M,.
Left hand all 5 fingers, Right index, middle, ring

In general most KB players use both ring, middle, index fingers and one thumb to hit the main 7 keys, and then the pinkies to hit the scratch

--------------------------------------------

If you play IIDX, the Hi-Speed isn't linear. Fow low bpm songs you would use a very high value like HS4-5, while for a high 200+bpm song you'd only use say HS1 or 1.5

The Hi-Speed for LR2 is linear. 300bpm with HS150 will read the same as 150bpm HS300 (someone correct me if wrong).

Skin doesn't matter, use what you're comfortable with. Most importantly for BMS, be very comfortable with reading notes; you'll need it for harder songs

I see, that makes a lot more sense now.

How do you adjust HS to certain kind of BPMs to get consistent results on your timing?

Is it just, memorize the HS for X bpm and remember to use it?

I memorise by bpm

e.g. for me on Wide skin,

BPM150, HS330-340ish, sudden 12
BPM180, HS280, sudden 12
BPM200, HS250, sudden 12

I adjust the sudden sometimes to more or less, depending on the kind of patterns in a chart and depending on my form playing in a session
If I'm tired and can't read fast notes, I reduce the sudden. You can finetune the sudden by holding the start button in LR2 and using the mouse scroll wheel ingame

I personally use the maxbpm mod since it gives a constant scroll rate based on the highest bpm of the song. Which allows me to play without changing HS most of the time. (with exceptions to some song with bpm changes though)
