Guitar Rigs
So I'm thinking of buying a new rig since I sold my 5150 head and all my rack equip. Question is, I have no idea what's good anymore, and what the industry standard is. I guess for starts what's a decent combo amp that would be the best bang for my buck? Looking for something maybe with 2x12's and 200w? I really don't know anymore.
Also brag to me about your rig, I love seeing what people have.

Re: Guitar Rigs
Can't really say that I have rig, and I dont have the best equipment in the world either lol, but...
I have 3 guitars: A Dean Vendetta 7 string, a Douglas R-310 w/ floyd rose tremolo, and an Indiana Scout steel string acoustic. As far as amps go, I have 2 combo amps: A Raven RG20(20w) and a Crate DXJ112(70w)(both 1x12). No footswitches/pedals/multi effects, I play straight from the amp.... which has its pros and cons, but I'd much rather prefer a better variety in tones versus literally tackling my amp for a specific sound. Seeing that you previously owned a 5150, you like balls-to-the-wall tube power, and for that, high fcuking five my man. What would be your price range? I say stick to your guns and get anything that's a Peavy combo w/ 2x12 cabs. The EVH 5150 III is really good, loud as hell but kinda on the pricey side. Or you can check out what Blackstar is doing nowadays, never disappointed on their stuff. Ill admit, I don't know much about heads because, well, I've never used them lmao. As for the "industry standard", one of the big ones would be the Axe-Fx II, a preamp multi-effects processor. I.... I love Axe-Fx lol its remarkable. Look more into them, highly recommend it.

Re: Guitar Rigs
I wish I could do this, but I don't have a good enough audio card to plug into, or an interface so this is sort of out of the question...Though I could probably find a nice one for a decent price.

I've heard of Axe-Fx, and I'm def going to look into more. Now that I'm making some money again I might be able to save up for a full rack and just get a nice head with some recording stuff too. Been thinking of getting an Engl Fireball head, but I can't find anything in my price range really. Or I'll just suck it up and get that Thunderverb combo I've been thinking of getting for like 4 years now lol How do you like that Raven combo? I used to have the same one haha

My Crate on the other hand, is fantastic lol solved my sustain issue. Got it very recently, so Im still playing with it. What like about it the most is that it has an acoustic effect in it, along with other built-in amp models. Well it is a modelling amp afterall lol. Everything Ive seen ENGL is expensive, but you get what you pay for. And I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally wanna try out that Thunderverb, or ANYTHING Orange. Never got the chance, and one of my favorite guitarists used to use them before he started using Axe-Fx(Tosin Abasi, Animals As Leaders. Ill punch your kidneys if you never heard of them.). You in Anamanaguchi or somethin?

Re: Guitar Rigs
Had the opportunity to attend a workshop Tosin was hosting in the area a while back but I was in Chicago at the time, rip. He's on my list of guys I hopefully get to jam with at some point (played with Vai and Satch before backstage, plus diddled around with Ben Weinman from DEP years back for like 2 mins if that counts lol)
Uh as for my rig...idk I have a lot of shit. Gibson Les Paul 04 and SG 06 standards (Dimarzio pickups in the LP, Deactivator in the neck and SD in the bridge), plus 11 some acoustics lying around the house (Taylor 914ce, Taylor GS, two Norman 12-stringers, two or three classical guitars my dad's had for 30+ years, some random Takamine, an aged Martin that plays like shit because the action is horrid but could be restored with some TLC, and two others I'm forgetting about atm). Got a Thunderverb at my mom's house that I haven't seen in two years (hopefully it's still there), just been using a Marshall TSL100 half stack combo in the meantime when I play (which is never nowadays gg school). I won't even get started on pedals and other crap lmao |

Re: Guitar Rigs
I was actually gonna ask about Dimarzio's SD's. Might get that setup for my Les Paul hehu.
I really hope you have that Thunderverb still OWA, I'd be pissed it went missing :/

Re: Guitar Rigs
Damn OWA, you met Satch and Steve Vai. foreverjealous.avi
Funny you mention the opportunity of meeting Tosin, he was in the same damn building as me when I went to a show a few months back to see The Faceless. A lot of my hero were there, him, Misha Mansoor, Wes Hauch and Michael Keene(no duh on the last two, they're in The Faceless lol). A dude I was hanging with said that Tosin was moshiing with everyone in the crowd about 20 minutes before I got there... 20 minutes too late. GG shitty job :/
