Default Stepmania Introductory Pack (name not final)

Mina's right I think. Who else thinks so?

So anyways, here's where this pack comes in. Many of you will not enjoy a lot of this pack, since it's going to be easier than most of stepping stones. Easier than VGMP4. Maybe even easier than Fullerene Shift.

The goal of this pack is not to have a bunch of songs that have one or maybe even two difficulties associated with it, but to have a few, maybe 12 to 20 even, with a complete spectrum of difficulties. Using FFR difficulties for comparison, a beginner difficulty ranging from roughly level 1-12, easy from 10-22, normal from 20-35, hard from 35-50, and expert from 50-70 (not too much higher than that, there's other hard packs out there for a reason). Think of how DDR or other rhythm game songs work with their difficulties - yes, it's going to be THAT basic.

If you want to contribute to this, here's what you can do:

Option 1) Provide a song and file that matches up with all/most difficulties criteria. I or someone else can always add in easier difficulties while keeping with the theme of the song. It doesn't have to be a file that's for now unreleased, eg. if a file from Stepping Stones can have more difficulties added to it, that's super.

Option 2) Provide a song and file that has a difficulty lining up with the criteria for a hard or expert file mentioned above. Again, the easier difficulties can be added pretty easily. And once again, doesn't have to be a file that's unreleased.

Option 3) help with gfx, I'm pretty bad at that kind of thing.

Option 4) Shitpost in this thread to increase traffic.

I'm not sure how well this would go, it's mostly in response to the people claiming that Stepping Stones, while amazing, didn't bridge to much much easier difficulties well enough. This isn't going to be a huge pack regardless.

If you want to participate, send me a PM, or email to celirra@gmail.com.

Have a good day/night, cuties.

not really that related, but im trying to make some charts, does anyone know why:

so lets say im making a song.. I step the first 30 seconds, save it, play it in stepmania.. all is good. Then lets say I go to step more, step another 20 seconds, then i save it and go to play it in stepmania.. the song still only plays the first 30 seconds, and it fades out while im playing the new shit i charted

anyone know how to fix this pls ty i wanna try my hand at makin some dank meme files

EDIT: seems like it fixed by switching from the new xwidget exe to the old one then switching themes, dunno lol, probably related to WIFE no hate <3

That'd be great if you can provide anything at all, you've done good with both hard and easy charts in the past so I think your contributions would be super.

in the other thread, if you want to help contribute to a google doc for newer players to have access to for learning about SM, that'd be cool. Can send the link if you're interested, again just send me a message.

Thanks for the shitposts too, friends.

Not only can I shitpost like a pro, but apparently my photoshop skills are passable and I can step more garbage (pronounced in a French accent, of course) with full charts. Granted, it'll mostly be old stuff with a fresh coat of paint and easier files, and some of them might be the odd "6-footer on heavy" sort of deal, but I'll try.

if we want to get some kind of beginner geared project going for stepmania, one that actually has potential to bring new users in, there needs to be way more work put into it than what you have here

It seems half assed for now, I acknowledge that. Honestly, I largely want to gauge the overall interest before investing a lot of time into this; I don't want this to be some single file author pack, so I was hesitant to do a lot before I saw that there were people interested. Given that there have been a few people who have approached me, more effort will be put into this kind of thing.

That being said as well, if there's any way you would like to help, that would be swell. The criticism is a sentiment shared between you and I, but this project as a whole has to start somewhere. Yeah, this thread seems shitty; that's not to say that the finalized version will be. Also, it's not like I'm doing nothing - I've been working on some things that would fulfill the criteria.

Sent a PM regarding my interest in contributing some charts to the pack, assuming DDR Pad/Index charts are allowed.

Replied; for anyone curious, the summation of the answer is that I'd say pad/index files aren't the goal, but I can see ways that they could potentially fit. Try to lean more towards spread.

just throwin this out there - i think we've already discussed the general problems and/or solutions in the other thread about this, but i'm still convinced that the content itself (the song choice) should in some way be relevant and interesting from an objective standpoint (people who have no idea of stpemanias). if what you want is to expand the general audience of stepmania, you/we should all consider how we can go about actually "introducing" such an introductory pack. surely, you weren't planning on just sending out an email newletter.. right? for example, the undertale pack (which i didn;t play tbh) - it's directed at an already existing community. same with the vgmp's (which i also don't play tbh sry). im NOT implying we want a gimmick, like a minecraft theme or some bs. just, maybe think more universally about what songs are charted, and how they'll be received by objective viewers

that said, im not really basing this on anything bc there's no songlist for this yet. do you have any plans for that?

also, just to clarify, you're looking to make new simfiles for this, right? i'm just wondering.

maybe take this into consideration with your brainstorm - how did you get into stepmania originally? what were the introductory packs you played?

that question is directed at everyone here i guess

here's my answer - remember stepmix? the official stepmania starter packs from back in the day. those were all meant to be pad, i think. then, i went for the community keyboard megapacks, which, as far as i can remember, is where i first learned to really play spread.

just tryin to conceptualize. you gotta think of it all in the context of everything

In regards to song list, I'm more than welcome to feedback on this matter but I think it would be good to stay away from anime music as a whole, since there does already exist Otaku's Dream which somewhat achieved what we're going for here. Other than that, there's no real criteria that I can think of, aside from perhaps gearing towards more fun songs or even ones that may be somewhat recognizable - open to suggestions on this.
