Re: What would make these forums better?
Removing or lightening TGB gatekeeping
Consistent and active moderation New users I like TRD's integration theme. The site shouldn't have such discrete chunks, that's sooooooo 2004 EDIT: STOP LABELING POSTS AS EDITED IF YOU EDIT WITHIN TWO MINUTES I edit my posts 1-5 times on average right after posting them and the edit message makes me super self conscious about it

Re: What would make these forums better?
Site looks like shit and FFR the Game is such a footnote in its design that no person stumbling on this website (lol has that happened in 2 years) will think to do anything with it.
More importantly, no Liking or tagging features to indicate activity and artificially inflate content quality. Idk a modern forum without these capabilities

Re: What would make these forums better?
mobile: main site first, then the game NEED mobile compatibility. FFR is unusable in any capacity from a cell phone, which is unacceptable right now. The game via necessity will have to take a backseat on this one, but it is super important too. No one wants to play an in-browser flash rhythm game--or they would, but don't know they exist/should bother looking for them because of the legion of better-designed, easily accessible rhythm games for mobile/tablet. Strictly in-browser isn't NECESSARILY DOA at the moment, but to gain any traction it needs a TON of facebook support and integration, including score sharing and a revamp of the game UI to be more P2P interactive, accessible, searchable and elegant.
(Tangentially, just because I'm OG as fuck and play with arrow skins doesn't mean that should be the default; orbular or notebar should ABSOLUTELY be the default skin so as not to look like the janky ass DDR knockoff we are but a Fresh and Exciting Rhythm Experience. Furthermore, why the fuck isn't a spread keymapping the default? It's not 'up down left right', it's '1 2 3 4' or some shit. EVERY new player will assume arrow keys are how the game is played and fuccen quit when they get past the eleven songs that are actually charted for that playstyle.) Finally, the front page. Upon revisiting this site after a year or so of utter inactivity my fresh eyes realized what a piece of garbage it is (relative to the times! it was truly, truly fine a few years ago, but we're in a new world now). Front page should be: an elegant spash-type page with easy, prominent access to the LATEST (ergo official) version of FFR the Game (sure you can keep the other engine options available in-game), easy access to the full forums (nevermind the overhaul those need), and the LATEST news update (with a 'see all updates' button ofc)--NOT a windowfull of totally inactive game updates/songs of the week with 'latest forum posts' on whichever side of the screen the devs feel like that year, together occupying 98% of the first impression anyone new to the site is about to get. I know this sounds like presenting a laundry list of problems without a solution. there might not be one, so long as we're relying on volunteer amateur devs who have all their own shit going on and a dwindling community of myopic old-timers who can't see past the forums. what FFR needs is completely uninvolved, probably paid devs who who can look at these shambles and create an approximation of a proper modern rhythm gaming app/website and a team of committed volunteers to overhaul the forums and provide GM direction to the devs. This site needs independent, professional contract work to make a splash, simply put. Volunteer coders, administrators and GMs are INVALUABLE and have taken this game so, soooooo far from its shitty, shitty roots, but we will never get further than this desert we're in now without real help. Someone who knows these sorts of projects needs to start a kickstarter or something. I know I'll throw in for it. This site will never DIE so long as the servers are running. There will always be this core of users who need this place and love this place--myself among them--who will always return to kick it. We've got a hell of a history. But if we want to get past this minimum threshold of activity, we have to actually GROW, and that's not gonna be accomplished by pumping out a zillion new songs next batch or doing another fucen photo hunt.
