Default Most depressing anime you've ever seen

Well, I like this topic, it's on many boards, and I've learned of some great anime and have quite the varied responses on this topic, and by depressing I mean it makes you cry or get teary eyed (or at least a lurching feeling in your gut)

My list (in no particular order):

End of Evangelion (one of the most ****ed up, psychological, yet beautiful anime movies, if not the most ever, but after watching it 4 times, I realized how much of a masterpiece it was, it deserved the academy!)
Elfen Lied
Rumbling Hearts
Air (only cause' of the ending)
Chrono Crusade (ending only)
Now and then here and there
Grave of the Fireflies
Saikano (probably number 1 most depressing)
X (maybe)
Blood+
Cowboy Bebop (ending)
FMA (definitely had it's moments)

opinions??

Chrono Crusade's ending was indeed touching, can't remember any really "depressing" animu I haven't watched too many series through anyhow.

Oh wait, if I remember correctly Kimi ga Nozomu Eien was quite depressing overall.

Funny how the only one I've seen in this is Chrno Crusade. You're right, it got depressing as it went on, although I think it got depressing a little before the ending.

I don't think I've watched even a moment of the others. Oh, except Evangelion. I watched episode 1.

Hmm...Witchblade, Eureka seveN, Speed Grapher, COWBOY BEBOP, BLOOD+....pretty much any anime that ends with a person saying like one word, then it pans upward while playing the ending theme, and finally it goes black and says "Fin".

Yeah, FullMetal really did have its moments.
But its ending had no real conclusion...

Cowboy Bebop on the other hand was depressing.

I felt like crying cause Spike had died for the last time. How sad...

Loveless..
Not depressing as in crying, but depressing as in there weren't too many happy moments in it -.-
And I agree with the ending of Evangelion..*sniffle*

gantz

In gantz, every single character that you end up liking dies a very horribly death in order. Then at the end everyone is dead and its over.

I loved Elfen Lied. Definitely one of the most depressing, imo.

I thought Grave of the Fireflies and Dog of Flanders were pretty depressing as far as movies.

One not mentioned before, Higurashi no naku koro ni seasons one and two are pretty depressing.

Liking?to me almost every character were hardly likable except for Kurono and kato.I don't hate it but maybe if they didn't wait 2-3 episodes to shoot they wouldn't die,so I decided to read the manga which was a whole lot better.

but yeah I think gantz is one depressing anime

Yeah, but the main hero comes back to life again (I read the manga), it's not as much depressing as just down right dark, and since you never know who dies and who lives (and some may come back to life, but not always) makes it suspenseful

Just finished watching Rumbling Hearts (kimi ga nozomu no eien), cried again, damn that's depressing as hell, hope that never happens to me and my friends

And Blood+ is up on my list as well now, forgot about it, it was sad and depressing, but I didn't cry...few anime's make me cry, but the ones that do stay with me forever

And Fullmetal Alchemist (which overall was not a depressing anime) had me crying at the end of episode 7 (night of the chimera's cry)

Fun Fact: Fullmetal Alchemist won the animage gran prix of best episode of the year for episode 7 as well as in the japanese academy awards for an animated series

And Higurashi is more paranoia and creepiness than anything sad or depressing IMO

End of evangelion was sweet. Blood+ was an interesting concept. I have to say the ending of cowboy bebop was pretty sad as well.

Pet Shop of Horrors. Not the 80's movie! that was little shop of horrors. It's really just a collection of little stories surrounding this pet store that gives people with voids in their life's VERY exotic pets and it always turns out badly. It's sad. I wonder if anyone here's seen it, I rented it from blockbuster like 3 times.
