I think what the author was trying to get across is that while there appears to be some genetic basis for non-hetero behaviors and attractions, orientation is far from being considered inherit in any individual at birth as developmental and environmental factors are largely ignored by born this way'ers. Not to mention the fluidity of sexuality exhibited by many individuals which further weakens the born this way stance. The alternate hypothesis is that sexual orientation is likely a complex construct influenced by genetic, environmental, and social factors and is subject to change. Assuming causality from any single factor would be a fatally myopic view.
