Default Should Halloween be moved to Saturdays?

Quote:
Tim Larson is a Democrat in Connecticut's House of Representatives. And he wants his state . . . and hopefully the whole country . . . to change the date of Halloween.

Instead of October 31st, it would be the last Saturday in October. That would make it similar to Thanksgiving, which isn't celebrated on a specific date . . . it's always the fourth Thursday in November.

Larson says his proposal would just make Halloween EASIER for everyone.

Quote, "Halloween is [a] fun night for the whole family, but not so much when you have to race home from work, get the kids ready for trick-or-treating, welcome the neighborhood children, then get everyone to bed for an early morning."

As these things always go, his Republican colleagues immediately cited it as an example of the government trying to interfere in people's lives.

Link
What do you think? Yes...it would make everything easier for the kids so they wouldn't feel rushed to get the trick or treating done sooner when Halloween happens on a Sunday-Thursday because of school the next morning. If would also be great for the adults when they go to Halloween parties so they come in to work the next morning with a headache (if those adults are Monday-Friday workers).

edit: Maybe this is CT. I'll let the admin/mod make that decision.

Nah, it should be on October 31st. Who really goes out until like midnight? I don't know, but here it ends at around 930pm at the latest usually, maybe 10. I don't see how that'd really effect that much. I like the idea of it being on October 31st, cause it has always been like that. Changing it is stupid.

Halloween parties don't ALWAYS have to be ON Halloween either. If you want them to be, then that's your choice, and you obviously know your own schedule and know your priorities.

Not every town/city has to have trick or treat on Halloween. Just because the actual holiday is on a specific date doesn't mean that it has to be celebrated on that day (As in, this is just Halloween, pretty sure 99% of the population wouldn't care that it's not celebrated on the specific day. Yes, I made that statistic up). Also agree with Vanilla about parties, they don't HAVE to be on Halloween. Really don't see what the big deal is about this :P

This seems like stupid/frivolous legislation trying to tackle a non-issue or make an issue out of a non-issue.

I'd be cool with the change, but I don't really care either way.

Let's not forget that Halloween is actually All Hallows' Eve, which can't be moved. Then it wouldn't be All Hallows' Eve.

I heard about this on the radio this morning, and after the hosts argued the benefits of changing the date of Halloween, I can't say I would be against it. My only problem is, what about the rest of the world? The US isn't the only nation that celebrates Halloween...

If this is to accommodate people, why don't we go trick-or-treating all day long? I know two parents at work on my shift (2:30pm to 11:00pm) that would love to be able to go out with their children that night, but they can't cause of work.

Case in point, just deal with it.

To be honest, it would be nice for Halloween to be on a Saturday or for people to just have the day off for Halloween, but I think our government has more important issues to focus on right now.

its very senseless to change halloween date to a last saturday of the month.it takes the originality out of the holiday.

I'm "too old" to trick-or-treat, but I'm not old enough (I guess that's a matter of opinion) to have children to take trick-or-treating, so changing the date to Saturday instead of whenever it falls just makes me hand out candy on a different day. In the grand scheme of things, this doesn't seem like a very big issue. It would take time for everyone to adjust since Halloween has always been October 31st, but I feel like it wouldn't be a huge issue. In fact, I'm sure kids would love it, and possibly some parents.

Like a few above me have said, we have more important issues to deal with. If we can find a way to balance the United States budget first, I'm sure we can then find a way to balance those in favor versus those against this change in date of Halloween.

It's not an issue. What's not broken, don't fix.
Besides, why is the American Govt talking about Halloween instead of more important things.. o_o;
