Having a slight issue with my computer.
I've tried everything but I can't seem to fix the problem.
I system restored my computer a couple weeks ago. Since then, I've been reinstalling all of the stupid drivers to make things work again. Except for the one that allows me to StepMan or to basically do any other game that requires a video card. When I go to Properties and look for a video card, there is none. The message I get when the screen goes black like when StepMania starts up and then gets an error and closes: "There was an error while initializing your video card. PLEASE DO NOT FILE THIS ERROR AS A BUG! Video Driver: (ERROR DETECTING VIDEO DRIVER) Initializing OpenGL... Your system is reporting that OpenGL hardware acceleration is not available. Please obtain an updated driver from your video card manufacturer. Initializing Direct3D... Your system is reporting that Direct3D hardware acceleration is not available. Please obtain an updated driver from your video card manufacturer." I don't know what I'm doing wrong and would really appreciate some help. Thanks. Also, downloading DirectX didn't work. =/

Re: Having a slight issue with my computer.
Alright, I clicked Properties, Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, (Default Moniter) and Properties, and Adapter. It's blank all the way down. I click Properties again and it says VgaSave or some ****.
Do I just download some random Nvidia driver or something? This is new **** to me because I've never had to system restore.

Re: Having a slight issue with my computer.
What kind of graphics card do you have? You don't want to download a random driver.
EDIT: I mean like Nvidia GeForce 6100 etc. You need to know all the little details to get the right one. Last edited by foilman8805; 08-2-2009 at 04:59 PM.. |

Re: Having a slight issue with my computer.
Again, I'm not exactly sure where to look for my graphics card. Not exactly technical savvy, you could say.

Re: Having a slight issue with my computer.
Ok, try going into Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information, then going into the Hardware tab, and looking at... Can't remember exactly what they call it.. I bet it's probably display, or graphics. Then look for the name of it - it should be under some companies such as Evga, ATI, XFX, MSI, nVidia, BFG, or PNY. Either that, or it should say that it is some sort of 'Integrated Graphics', and it should give you a manufacturer name and product code.

Re: Having a slight issue with my computer.
Easier to just go Control Panel >> System >> Hardware Tab >> Device Manager and then I think your video card will be located under the 'Display Adapters'. Tell us what's there.
Here's a screenshot to show you where I'm looking. |

Re: Having a slight issue with my computer.
Alright, looked in System Information. I saw a Hardware Resources tab but no Hardware tab.
Conflicts/Sharing DMA Forced Hardware I/O IRQs Memory is all I see. Still nothing. E: Foil, I went into Device Manager a couple of times but can't find a Display adapters.

Try following foilman's instructions - that should work also.

Re: Having a slight issue with my computer.
omfg this EXACT thing happened to me. However, I did all of those things and tried downloading a video driver and no matter what I do, it still won't work. I'm at a complete loss. People that are much more tech savvy than me have looked at it and can't figure it out either... =/

Start > Run > type "dxdiag" without the quotes.
Go to the "Display" tab and see what it says. edit: If this doesn't work, find the model number of your computer. We can use that to look up what video card you have. |

Re: Having a slight issue with my computer.
Are you on XP or Vista? My directions were for XP, but it sounds like you're on a different OS. I'll do some research for Vista right now and see if I can come up with something.
EDIT: Do what Relambrien suggested. You said you installed DirectX so that'll work I think. |

Re: Having a slight issue with my computer.
That link that emerald provided will set you up if you're just using the on-board graphics card for your computer. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the drivers.
If you're using a custom graphics card and you're sure of it, then I don't know how much those drivers will help you. |

Click here for your onboard graphics video drivers
As long as you didn't change any actual hardware from when you originally got the computer, this should work. |

Oh, I am Windows XP, by the way.

Re: Having a slight issue with my computer.
Don't download the driver that Relmabrien linked. It's for Vista.
http://support.gateway.com/support/d...&uid=240566554 That link is for XP. |
