Default The 2013 Canadian International AirShow.

It's that time of year again where I make a post based on photos I shot at this year's Canadian International AirShow, held in Toronto during the labour day weekend every year. The main feature craft on this year's schedule featured a harrier, famous for it's vertical take off and hovering capability.

Was this year's show better than the previous years? In terms of line up, absolutely. Next year's promises to be a strong year as well being the 65th anniversary of the Canadian International AirShow.

Below you can find a list of some of the photos I've taken between August 31 and September 2, 2013.

CT-155 Hawk - Canadian Forces trainer aircraft made a few appearances.

CF-18 Hornet - The pride and joy of the Canadian Forces, this jet made a loud and proud demonstration of why Canada has remained loyal to this jet since the 80s.

Deadstick - Kent Pietsch flies to 6,000 ft and turns off his engine to perform a glider-esque deadstick act in his jelly belly interstate cadet.

Glider - A glider and a tow plane.

Great War Flying Museum - The Red Baron's Fokker DR1 and The Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter were in town and recreated the Red Baron's legacy in WWI.

Harrier - The highlight of the 2013 show, this jet single handedly scared away every living bird on the airshow premises with its hover - lots of noise, moving forwards, backwards, up, down, doing 360s while its engine jets pointed downward created quite the mist over Lake Ontario.

Kent Pietsch - One of Kent Pietsch's acts cost him the aileron of one of his wings; made his flights quite interesting to see. Even went for a round of water skiing.

L39 - Czech built soviet trainer aircraft.

Matt Younkin's Beech 18 - A heavy twin prop passenger plane from the 1940s that was never designed to perform barrel rolls and stunts Matt Younkin throws on this craft. Unfortunately, his 3 day stay at the CIAS was cut short due to his right engine malfunctioning early into his first performance.

Mike Wiskus - The Lucas Oil Pitts Special was back with it's high intensity, high Gs stunts, complete with harrassing the local fire boat.

Red Star and the Dragon - A dogfight act between the Red Star's Viper L-29 and the Dragon's BAC 167 StrikeMaster. The Red Star features the United States of America and the symbolic eagle on one side, with the CCCP and Soviet hammer and sickle on the other. The Dragon features a dragon.

Snowbirds - Canada's premier demonstration team, and this year's only North American military jet team according to the CIAS site. Their focus is graceful flying.

Trojan Horsemen - Six WWII era T-28 Trojans in different paint schemes recreated WWII Formations and demonstrated maneuvers WWII aircraft had to undertake in a dogfight.

Edit: There were also Skydivers, which you can see what it's like to jump into Lake Ontario with this video:

I'm sorry about frightening you with this revelation. Canadians will be sure to politely notify you in advance of such Eh? bomb drops so that you can safely jettison the premises should you wish to do so.

Very nice display. I especially liked the shots you got of the harrier! Wish I could have been there, I love to watch airshows.
