I'm not sure there's any evidence for what he's trying to say. I'd like to see the studies. Carrying more *mass* increases BMR, but I'm not aware of long lasting metabolic effects on BMR from HIIT. I have read of its effects on fat burning and muscle preservation, which in and of itself might count for small BMR improvement during a cut I suppose (maintaining more LBM while losing body fat will keep your BMR higher than it would be had you lost that LBM).

I know mr. biolayne talks about a lot of metabolic damage stuff related to this issue but I don't know if there's any real literature backing it up in the practical sense.
In an ideal world, that would hold true, but the metabolic boost you'd get from HIIT is seriously minimal and definitely not enough to allow you to eat 300+ cals worth of food. And again, why anyone would do cardio when trying to put on or even maintain their weight is beyond me. Cardio should be saved for the very end of a cut when lowering caloric intake is no longer an option.

And watch out, bro. You mean Dr. If you've followed him a while, you'll know how much he likes to pull the PhD card

Oh hey, he put up a link about this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...5/#!po=1.92308
If they're trying to bump up their metabolism by even the slightest bit, why aren't they doing LISS and not HIIT like Reach stated above?

If the article answers my question, I apologize, but ain't nobody got time fo' dat.

Whoops, I was on her account, looool

Also: they are doing LISS, i've said that for a while. I do HIIT, but I'm trying to cut without having to do a shit ton of cardio. And because once you get so fucking big that your body goes beyond a normal person, you have to do little tricks like that or you'll lose it.

Had me worried there a second.

And I meant to type why *are* they doing LISS as opposed to HIIT? It makes no sense (again, unless they actually enjoy doing cardio) seeing there's no metabolic advantage gained from doing LISS. Like I said before, if they enjoy eating and tend to go over their maintenance cals by quite a large margin and don't want to be gaining too much fat, then yes, I agree they should do cardio. But arguing that doing cardio is a *must* for them? That's just ludicrous.

Then again, you believed you were gaining weight while eating in a caloric deficit a few pages back, so maybe I should quit wasting my time here

ur 1 cheeky cunt m8. Look up any sort of bulking program that isn't bullshit, and they generally recommend that you do some form of cardio on your off days. Doggcrap does it, Mountain Dog does it, hellraising training does it, nearly every single program has it programmed into it in some form or another.

This is me at 230-235.

http://i1245.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0a214944.jpg this is me at 220.

You fucking tell me. I know that I dont know shit about anything, but I would suggest that if I'm getting that bulky while having more abs then I'm probably gaining weight. I was carb cycling with a 2600 cal day, a 2300 day, and a 2000 cal day.

It is true that most programs recommend some sort of cardio (or "conditioning," as Jim Wendler wrote in 5/3/1), but is it required to avoid excess fat gain? I don't think so.

You'd be surprised how big a difference lighting can make...in one setting (like the pic I posted when I first got in this thread), my abs look pretty solid, but give me lighting like the one in your second pic and I won't see shit.

Looking considerably leaner in your second pic, btw. Is that where you are currently? If so, height + goal weight?

No, that was before I got started really dieting. I'm about 4 inches smaller in my waist now than I was in that picture, I was just super dried out because I hadn't had carbs for a while, haha. I'm 6', hoping to be like 295 you know, jacked as fuark. They aren't doing it to avoid excess fat, they complain that if they aren't doing some sort of cardio, they can't gain weight because all the food they're using just flushes out.

Glad this thread is more active now. Will check regularly.

Guy doesn't give a fuck holy shit haha

I suppose, on one hand, a lot of people needed to hear this shit because they're gullible as hell and think you can get way bigger than is even remotely possible without drugs

On the other hand, this probably isn't the best career move but the guy already said he doesn't give a fuck about $ so yeah, I really don't think he cares at all.

I think it's funny how everybody I personally know who does roids is weaker then me and the strongest person I'm friends with is all natural. I know this is just genetics but to me it's justice with a side of spaghetti. Although everybody who does roids that I know only do it to be bigger. This is why I really like to do mma, it's a way healthier clean sport for the most part. Sure there are a ton of guys who do roids still but it's looked down upon for the most part in mma, plus most of the greatest fighters out there are natty. Bodybuilding is a great sport I'm not trying to say anything about it, it's just discouraging to me how much your potential is limited by nature, where in mma your skill can pretty much always go up. I don't really know who I'm saying this to, just thought I'd throw some shit in here since I usually just read it without replying haha

Their lack of strength probably comes from lack of knowledge on how to properly build it. Genetics play a huge part in strength potential, but most people on gear should be able to out-lift most natural lifters.

Roids increase your strength, decrease recovery time and increase maximum performance potential. Many athletes are using them. Don't delude yourself. Let's be fucking real here; many MMA guys are using.

Some have been caught and the information was released (Alistair most recently but MANY others, even females busted for running hilarious shit like winny). Some have been caught and probably not outed. Some were users in the past (e.g. kimbo slice). It's not really a clean sport, but then again, there are barely any clean sports nowadays.

But roids don't increase skill and certainly don't create talent. They're a shortcut but not a ticket to victory.

But yeah, the aspect I hate most about bodybuilding is the drugs and the fact that the biggest guys are also the guys taking the most shit.
