And in fact, those same two problems are admittedly the ones that seem to elude my usual paths of reasoning every time I take the test. Initially, I came up with a simple rationale for #37, but it apparently wasn't what the test was looking for. The same could be said for #40. However, I would most like to know the logic behind #51, which imo is the most difficult problem. It's like staring at some mystifying cipher.

Damn. I actually checked 37 and 40, so I'm positive I got those, but I didn't check many of the easier problems so evidently I might have flubbed two of the easier problems.

1010 would correspond to an IQ of 165, which is quite a high ceiling, though that's a huge jump for two additional correct answers and the test likely suffers from the ceiling effect at this point.


My reasoning for 51 was analogous rather than sequential. The 3rd term is related to the first more so than the 2nd, so logically to complete the analogy 5 is the only answer that makes sense (but maybe I approached this incorrectly)

Yeah, as far as I can tell, your reasoning for 51 is sound. It makes a lot more sense now. I'm still surprised they decided to throw in such a curveball after all the sequentially structured problems that preceded it.

I skipped a couple of questions because I was a bit busy and didn't really have time to, and in other tests I'd gotten 130/126 etc..

As I recall, the last time I received a professionally administered IQ test, the results were somewhere along the lines of "His intelligence is highly above average, but the lateral thinking componant was a lot more 'average'" with the basic conclusion that I'm quite intelligent, understand things easily, have excellent memory and recall, but once you ask me to get all abstract, I have difficulties more in line with the average.

So I'm really good at Sudoku and really bad at Rubix Cubes.

Haha, we must be the same then devonin. I actually did my first Sudoku puzzle a couple of weeks ago and got extremely addicted to them... and apparently I'm really good at them. But I have such a difficult time with Rubik's Cubes. God, I can't do them at all... but then again, I have never owned one so I haven't really taken the time to actually solve it, but the few times I have tried has frustrated me.

The cube is MUCH easier to understand if you think of it as three layers instead of 6 sides. There are 8 corner pieces and 12 edge pieces and 6 centers. The centers always stay the same relative to each other (e.g. red always opposite orange, etc).

Once you think of the cube in terms of layers, edges, and corners, it's a lot simpler to understand and visualize.

No speedcuber solves a cube "by sides." It's all about putting the right corners/edges into each layer.

I breezed through the verbal items in a few minutes. I found them simple, though I am unsure of one of the answers.

The number sequences are more difficult. I can't seem to solve a number of them...actually, some of them are highly difficult. I haven't spent much time trying to solve them yet though.

EDIT: Wow, I must be doing really bad. Every time I think one is hard, the one after it is really easy.

EDIT2: Maybe not... In the word section they had gn____ and ch____ mixed in with some easy ones.

It says in the introduction that the items are arranged randomly and are not in order of difficulty.

Same goes for the number sequences.

Apparently Mensa Sweden is using this as a test for a summer competition as well. I won't be submitting answers for this one, though it can be fun if you're bored anyway. I managed to solve 18 of them in an hour or so.

I see what you mean about the number section. Here are the first five I couldn't solve in fiveish minutes each:

I think I could solve 9, 14 and 15 with more time.

The vocab part is trivial; you fill out what you know and can't help the others. Writers, or people with experience in literature, have a big advantage.

Well, it isn't trivial. This test is fairly well designed actually. Measures of vocabulary are, contrary to what you might think at first, generally good measures of IQ. That is because more intelligent people have larger vocabularies and working memories, so well designed vocabulary tests can tap into these differences. Some problems with administering this type of test over the internet is persistent people could try to cheat, but overall vocabulary is a relatively good measure of IQ.

And yes, those are some of the hardest questions on the test, though, he probably shouldn't have posted the answers.

If some people want to team up in an attempt to break this test, by all means, go ahead (Though, it probably won't work, as it will rely heavily on the most intelligent person in the group, as less intelligent people will have more trouble verifying answers), but keep the answers out of this thread please!


But yeah, those 5 number sequences are very hard. I worked on this section for about an hour and answered 34 of them, 31 of them with confidence. There are about 10 or so that are incredibly difficult IMO.

Two of them, but one of them was one of answers I am not confident in - it was an inkling, but it could be wrong. These are 5 of the harder problems on the test.

12 is baffling. I also can't get anywhere with 15 or 8. If you figure out any of these I would be interested in knowing via PM.
