Default Grindhouse

Ahh. Grindhouse.

A doublefeature, Planet Terror by Rodriguez, and Deathproof by Tarantino.

I loved Planet Terror...but my god, DeathProof was terribly slow. Such a disappointment.

Any opinions on it?

Yea I stayed for Planet Terror and walked out on Death Proof. I loved the movie trailers in between the films.

Not out here until June, making me incredibly sad.

I heard about how bad Death Proof was though, but I'll still stay and watch all of it when it comes out here.

Death Proof was by far my favorite of the two. Planet Terror was funny, but Death Proof was terrifying.

It always kinda made me laugh, Kurt Russel trying to be bad like that.

Actually, thinking back on it now, I liked Death Proof at least twice as much as Planet Terror, and I liked Planet Terror. Death Proof just had this realistic aspect that I didn't expect, and it really took me by surprise. Most people complain about the dialouge - but honest to God, I thought it was strong. I really think people just lack the attention span to watch anything nowadays.

Anyways, the dialouge made me feel more attached to the characters, which made both halves of Death Proof really frightening.

Yeah, but the first half hour could;ve been cut, and that damn diner scene was painfully slow.

Tarantino could've cut half of the movie out without a doubt.

I might go see it again today to see Death Proof. I only saw maybe 15 minutes of it.

I felt a little upset walking out on it, but I was tired and couldn't stay awake. It was almost midnight and I didn't want to watch the movie if I was going to sleep through it.

Both movies were awesome. If I had to choose between the two it would definitely be Death Proof.

Just got back from seeing Grindhouse again. I saw both films this time and I can't decide which of the two movies I like more.

I really don't think he could've and made the movie as effective.

SPOILER:

He spends a good half an hour building up our relationships to these characters - Especially Butterfly. She's new in town, not really hot, and has been, as Stuntman Mike says, "Touche'd." I was rooting for her to live - she was the only person to consistently wear her seat belt and not make really dumbass decisions through the movie. She was even kind enough to give Mike the lap dance.

And I was sure she was going to live when they made it so obvious she had her belt on. You see what happens to everyone else first - ejected, leg cut off, glass across the face... But what happened to Butterfly was beyond words. Her face was ground off with a tire. Her neck was broken. She got it worst of all.

I still hoped that one of them survived, but when McGraw said all four died, I felt sad. I felt nervous when the new girls were introduced, and the first thing that struck me was how similar they were to Julia, Shanna, and Butterfly.

I was sure that one of them was going to die. We were going through the same formula - long set up, dialog to get us attached, and then he would rip it away again. Which is why the chase when Zoe is on the roof of the car was so tense for me. Because I was emotionally vested in these characters. They weren't some second hand people, they had history together. They worked together, raved together, and Stuntman Mike was about to do exactly what he did.

If they had cut the first segment of Death Proof, I would have felt little dread for the situation, because I wouldn't have known how Mike operated, nor would I have known what it was like to have characters that I cared about to be ripped away like that.

END SPOILERS

Which is why I liked Death Proof more.

I haven't seen it, but all the intelligent critics liked death proof more, so that means that mal must be right, and the rest of you are ADD action-whores.

Holy crap this movie was awesome - I have to say that I liked the second half better because of the absolute ownage.

In the diner scene with the girls, did anyone notice Mike sitting at the bar?

No. Seriously. DeathProof was a piece of ****. Anyone who enjoyed it is just a Tarantino fanboy. No doubt about it.

But for those who saw Grindhouse, there was a preview called Machete. Rodriguez decided that he liked the idea so much, he's going to make it a full-length feature. AWESOME!

Its my avatar. Check it out.

No. I hated Jackie Brown, his segment of Four Rooms and the majority of the ending of Kill Bill Vol 2. I just liked Death Proof more because it tended to play with my emotions a tad bit instead of going for silly, over the top violence and gore. It was toned down, real, and made me feel nervous inside.

I can't believe you would blow past my post - which was a huge justification for liking Death Proof better and chalking it up to fanboyism.

But since we're making generaliztions - anyone who liked Planet Terror better has the attention span of a gnat and would rather watch pretty pretty explosions over plot. Next time, spend double the money, get some fireworks and a PS2 game. They'll last longer and you won't look like a huge idiot.

As a seperate, straight to DVD release to coincide with the DVD releases of Planet Terror and Death Proof. Ooh, ahh, doesn't sound like the Weinsteins are trying to make more money at all!

They're also planning on releasing both films to theatres seperatley in a few weeks, so if you want to see the double feature, see it relativley soon.
