Default Guitar Hero 5 Review

Yeah so you may be wondering "Why review this game now?" Well, because it really really annoys me and I feel like I've been ripped off. For reference, I'll be reviewing the Playstation 2 version of the game, so many of these complaints may be unique to that version.

Also, the disk stopped working today even though there are no scratches on it and every other Playstation 2 disk I have (including blue ones) work perfectly fine. I go to play the game and it flat out doesn't even load up anymore.

So, okay, what exactly is so bad about this game? Oh let me list thy ways! In no particular order

1) The guitar controller it comes with doesn't work on any Guitar Hero game earlier than Aerosmith. Further it works on none of the Rock Band games. There is no disclaimer or anything on the packaging of the bundle to let you know you're buying something that won't work with your earlier Guitar Hero games.

2) You no longer can play the game by controller. In every previous Guitar Hero game (at least through Aerosmith. I don't have World Tour to know if it's true on that game) you could play it with a guitar controller or a regular controller, for a different game experience. You now are forced to play only via guitar controller.

3) You no longer can have multiple game saves. In previous Guitar Hero games I enjoyed creating multiple saves for differing playstyles. For example, one for right-handed, one for left-handed, one for right-handed-upside-down, one for left-handed-upside-down, one for controller, and so forth. In this game you only get one.

4) The game freezes. ... A lot. Enjoy ruining a good run by having the game freeze mid-song.

5) Apparently you need a pretty pristine Playstation 2 in order to even read the disk. Because now the disk won't even play anymore for me, and it has no scratches/etc... and yet I have no problems playing other Playstation 2 games.

6) Unlike previous Guitar Hero guitar controllers, there is no way to turn off this controller. The way you turn it off is take the batteries out. Seriously!

So I now am left with a pretty useless controller as it only works on one of my five playable Guitar Hero games. Part of the reason I even bought the bundle in the first place was to get a second controller. A useless controller which only works on 1 / 5 Guitar Hero games that I own.

So yes, call this thread review a rant if you will, as that is what it is. But I've also given pretty solid reasons as to why this game sucks and why you shouldn't buy it even if you like the other Guitar Hero games. It's possible these problems are Playstation 2 version-specific.

It's funny how their games only get worse. You'd think they'd learn from their mistakes and make a better game, but NOPE.

Rock Band > GHWT-GH5 series.

Your first problem was getting the PS2 version of GH5. It's utter trash. Every other version was better than it by a longshot, so don't base the game off of one port (albeit a shitty one).

I have a problem with gh3 when I'm playing online. Whenever I'm playing co-op with someone on a difficult song (any of the dragon force songs on expert) it will just freeze up in the middle of the song. And this only happens on crazy songs, which makes playing online no fun. Does this happen to other people or is it just me?
