i never really use gp5 runes, they're so bad for early game

relying on vision & all-ins for your gold income is better, and philo is good enough for gold income

Also, your playing at bronze level, I think GP5 would benefit you better their because if you win an early all in, you most likely wont be able to press your advantage.

I do grab the GP5 mastery. I'll also consider L.B.D.D's rune set-up and Jesse's firm position on playing Zyra for freelo.

the gp5 mastery and starting 25/50 gold are definitely useful for stocking up on early game wards
but on top of the mastery/philo stone, any other gp10 is only useful if you're super ahead
the 3 quints give 3g/10, which is 18g/min, 180g in 10 minutes. that's 2.5 wards every 10 minutes (and you might get gibbed), as opposed to getting 2 assists while surviving which should be way more than 180g

it's just that without real armor / defense as a support, you're essentially a walking bag of money for the enemy team

you're worth 300g, but you're super squishy - which is why in pro games you always see midlaners taking warm dumps on supports who are off roaming/warding

try to minimize that squishiness by becoming as tanky as possible while not sacrificing wards

you can do this by buying HP items, most players would rush philo stone but often times you will see pros/higher mmr players opting for a ruby crystal instead, so that they don't have their sightstone delayed & have better all-ins pre-lv 6

also for runes try running gp/10 quints, magic pen reds (flat ad reds work well too for champions like sona or annie where you have long ranged aas so it gives you consistent harass), flat armor yellows ALWAYS, and blue mr flat because most supports deal ap damage. if the enemy team is 100% all ad and theres maybe 1 or 2 magic abilities then id opt flat cdr blues

masteries usually i do 1/13/16. the 1 being a point in exhaust/ignite buff, the 13 opting for hp, some armor/mr, hp regen, and champion damage reduction, and the 16 the normal route (opting for the extra gp/10+additional 50 gold at start & explorer ward/biscuit; everything before that is really personal preference)

side note:

for thresh, you HAVE to take armor quints or something defensive since you have no extra armor lv 1-3 (you don't have a lot of souls until lv 4)

Flat health quints anyone? I don't have them because I'm poor in IP but if I did, that would probably be my choice on Thresh, Leona, etc.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll probably purchase an extra rune page or two and start designing them based on what you've told me. I'll give those ideas a try and see if I have better luck.
