Re: New Song Artist's Special Batch - Submission Closed
ugh, stopping for now. Caught judging fatigue; put out really detailed notes for ten more songs, though. I should finish the notes in my next sitting, though.
edit: haha, my text file for the notes of the batch is 16 KB. |

Re: New Song Artist's Special Batch - Submission Closed
16 KB is pretty big - I think mine was 13. (And I guess yours will get a bit bigger when you do the last few files.)
This is a very good idea (we would also need to have no judge post their grade distribution until the deadline). That way nobody can get on the remaining judges' asses. Still, though, you're going to have to deal with people being impatient. It's part of being in a community, and there's no reason to get angry about it. Especially if you're a judge and a moderator. This is an OK idea, but not great. I think it's important for people to know how long they can expect to wait. It's much better than having to PM all the stepartists once you actually release the notes - I doubt people will check often if they have no clue when it will be.

All this should probably be discussed in the judges forum. I actually made a thread earlier today which mentioned a few of the things that are being mentioned here.

You don't think non-judges should have any say in this, or be able to follow the discussion?

I think for the sake of sparing people flipping out, it's better discussed there. What's the point of having a judges forum if we never use it?

Re: New Song Artist's Special Batch - Submission Closed
There needs to be a deadline date posted for when judge notes are due. I hated having to check every day in the queue thread to see if notes were posted yet.
PS notes please

@ qq: I don't mind the people being impatient because it's actually kinda neat to see them excited about what we do. I don't appreciate other judges getting impatient though, because they know all of the deadlines, all of the songs, and whatnot.

People were discussing getting rid of the deadline from being posted which is why I posted what I did. I'm aware the deadline is posted in the op

Making that deliberation invisible to us simply because we could flip out and because the judges need to use that forum from time to time doesn't seem legitimate to me. I believe we at least have the right to know what's going on about that topic. |

Re: New Song Artist's Special Batch - Submission Closed
Everything else about the batch is discussed in there. When the next one's are going to open, who back up judges are going to be, etc etc. Plus now look, this thread is completely derailed from what it's supposed to be for. Now it has just been nothing but a bunch of arguments and troll/spam posts that were stuck cleaning up because that's just how it is. We can't discuss things without it becoming a big issue. Which is why I feel it's better discussed amongst us in the judges forum then once the judges are able to come to a decision on something, bring it out to the community. Because frankly this is nothing but a confusing mess now.

Re: New Song Artist's Special Batch - Submission Closed
Maybe you're right. Maybe the post counts do go up quite a bit, maybe the thread is derailed, maybe it's all a big mess now... But I still think that the fact we need to know what's going on and what led to a decision outbalances all of that.
The thread is derailed, true, but, quite frankly, nobody could honestly expect anybody to ask questions related to the OP this close to the deadline. I know I'm anxious as all hell and I do my best not to post crap all over the place. edit: Even though I know this won't change anything, I'm pretty sure the deliberation in the judge thread will end up in a mess too, the difference being that nobody will have any recollection of it. There's no way of escaping it: there will be a mess! Last edited by MarioNintendo; 08-20-2011 at 08:50 PM.. |

Re: New Song Artist's Special Batch - Submission Closed
And you guys would be told of the decision and why, the discussion just wouldn't be continuing on in here. I mean look now it's a whole big thing about how we shouldn't be able to discuss things in a private forum. Don't you think the staff has private discussions about things pertaining to the site?

Re: New Song Artist's Special Batch - Submission Closed
Judges are less likely to have issues because the only people waiting for the notes are other judges, therefore relieving a huge amount of pressure (that is, if the batch dates weren't entirely disclosed).
I think the reason why judge arguments are happening is related to users pressuring the judges to speed up, and not all of those judges can keep up due to other scheduling issues. It all boils down to those who have submitted being more patient about the results, and the judges have to be willing to be patient with everyone else. We -are- a team, after all. |

Re: New Song Artist's Special Batch - Submission Closed
I never intended to bring up some kind of anarchy up here, quite frankly. I respect the staff, their discussions and, as I've said, I am well aware that none of what I am saying will change anything since I am nothing more than a regular user over here. Of course you have private discussions and that's fine with me. Please excuse me if I didn't express myself correctly.
All I asked for was a reason as to why the things that happen happen. Again, I don't want FFR to transform into some kind of anarchy, but, the way I saw it, it seemed like the complete opposite for a brief moment. EDIT: You do bring up something, AJ. "We are a team." This, unconsciously, was the reason that made me think we had the right to participate in those debate. We do are a team, after all. Part steppers and part judges, we all cooperate to make FFR the best rhythm game possible! EDIT2: But I dropped the gun. I now understand the reason behind your actions and have less difficulty accepting them. Last edited by MarioNintendo; 08-20-2011 at 09:01 PM.. |

Re: New Song Artist's Special Batch - Submission Closed
I'm not saying that users shouldn't be able to have any say in things. But I think it is best at times for staff members to discuss certain things outside the public eye so people aren't freaking out bout something that may not happen anyway. It saves a lot of bs and people making spam posts like "oh you're just butt hurt" or "the mods are mad" etc.
I should also add that I also say this because so far every time there has been a new batch there has been a shit storm in the threads.

I personally feel like the current system is alright if people are willing to wait for the appropriate deadlines, but if it's needed, it might be necessary to keep some of the action in the Simfile Judgment subforum. It's ultimately up to JX to decide this. EDIT: hey! don't post before me when I don't quote aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa |

Re: New Song Artist's Special Batch - Submission Closed
This has to do with the judges and the structure of the batch judgment...? How does this have anything to do with moderation when it's pertaining entirely to the structure of the batch?
