Any Tips For Switching Over To Spread?
so i have been trying to switch over to spread for a pretty damn long time and i still suck at it. i am trying to switch of to either dfjk, sdjk, askl, zx./, or m,./. but i suck playing with any of the key setups. any suggestions? and btw, i play at a 2.0 speed mod if you are going to say to slow down my speed mod.

Re: Any Tips For Switching Over To Spread?
This should rather be posted in the FFR R1 General Talk. It can't be stressed enough, that it doesn't take one word of advice or one magical phrase to instantaneously convert your playing style to spread. Of course, the magical phrase could help you convert to spread faster.
My suggestion to you is to start playing a whole range of songs with different patterns, speeds and difficulties. I'm not sure of what difficulty range you play, but it would be a good idea to tune down the level of songs you play when you are practicing to convert to spread. Browse through the FFR song selections, and maybe you could use the 'random' song button in the drop-down menu to pick a suitable difficulty. If you use Stepmania of any sort, you could try practicing songs off Stepmania. Given you have a good range of songs, it could be more helpful. Maybe ask friends to help you find suitable song packs or songs. You could decide to read some of my tips I pointed out in this thread. In the case that you don't have Stepmania, want to update to a different version or have queries which need answering, refer to this thread. By the way, slow down your speedmod.

Re: Any Tips For Switching Over To Spread?
unless you are absolutely comfortable with 2.0, change down to 1.75.
i suggest using ASKL, rest your arms on your desk, withthe keyboard far back from the edge. lower the difficulty of songs you play but not much. once you get used to the arrow posistions and stuff, 300 sparta remix is a good easy song to practice on. once you've got the basics mastered, Szamar Mdar is a very good song for spread practice. i recently switched to spread, it takes a while to get used to but wholly worth it in the long run.

Re: Any Tips For Switching Over To Spread?
I tried spread many times on my PC and I did not like it, I started on a laptop and I was perfectly fine with it. If you have access to a laptop I would try to play spread on that.

Re: Any Tips For Switching Over To Spread?
Diagonal spread like qs lp or ef ji is more comfortable in my opinion than same row keys like as kl.
Play the hardest songs that you can pass (without purposely mashing) even though you may be terrible with them. This is how I went about it. Eventually you will hit the keys correctly as a reaction without thinking about it. edit: I also don't think slowing the speed mod is a good idea. There shouldn't be any reason to slow it because switching the playing style doesn't mean you can no longer read the arrows as well, it's just that you're not used to them and don't know how to hit them.

Re: Any Tips For Switching Over To Spread?
when I switched to spread from 1 hand (supposedly a really difficult thing to do) It only really took me a week of solid solid playing it was christmas break so no big. But I am also a very quick learner at other things so that might have helped. I played a lot of difficulty 6 and 7 300 sparta mix, -Y,DotA,
and Beaker sunset I played a lot. Now I can FC some 11s.(Demon Fire, Vertex BETA (not an FMO but should be.(lol))) I also played BB evo and Southern Cross alot.

Clutch your balls and hope for the best. jk
Try to find a comfortable spread setup. When I first played index, and I switched to spread, I used z x . / with my middle and ring fingers. then moved to the arrow keys and numpad. Also what may help is playing easier songs so you fingers can get acquainted with the new setup.

Re: Any Tips For Switching Over To Spread?
Honestly, I failed at converting to spread. Gave up. But, I can still tell you what I did if you want to try it.
I started out playing one handed, like many me us do. Then, Argo told me to switch to spread to increase my speed. But, no matter how much I tried it didn't work. So, I currently play two-hand-three-finger. Up - right index, down - right index, left - left index, right - right middle. And Argo told me that's how Smartdude plays. And said he got his rank down to two. So, that leasts me with a goal. To be the best 2-hand-3-finger player on FFR. :] So, if you wanna try switching to that first it'll help adjust you to using more fingers. Assuming you don't already play that way. If so, disregard everything in this post, lol. Either way, good luck with you conversion! |

Re: Any Tips For Switching Over To Spread?
Then like I said, lol, ignore the whole post. d: Either way, lower the speed mod at first. Bring it down to a notch where you can get good PA, at least what you usually get now. Then work it back up if you want. You just expect to complety beast on x2 when you haven't mastered the spread position. And of course, SM. Never fails to practice some SM. Again, good luck. Hope I could be of help.

Gotta love the line "I've tried" conversion in most cases takes few weeks at minimum. Not few days a or a week, and not few games a day.

Re: Any Tips For Switching Over To Spread?
I use KL numpad 86. It's comfortable without reaching halfway around the world for your other keys. It's also easier to change because it still has the same general shape as the arrow keys.
