Default Need help picking out a metal pad

Yeah I know. Buying a metal pad in 2013. WHAT AM I THINKING.

Anyways the only 3 that are on the market are the championship metal, the energy, and the elusive ion metal dance pads.

I would like a cobalt flux, but nearly nobody is selling them and if they are, it's only on craigslist and they are too far.

I've seen good and bad reviews for the former two pads.
I really need to get my DDR/ITG/Stepmania fix really badly.

So suggestions?

Do you have one yourself? Can you actually recommend it under personal experience? That's what I kind of meant.

Well you said it was elusive, kind of added on a hint that you had prior knowledge.

And no, I don't really play pad and I don't own one. Though I wouldn't mind getting one...

Cobalt flux pads are really bad if you're trying to increase your footspeed.

You don't honestly have any good options. I would steer clear of the few metal pads that are being produced right now. And even a CF or Blue Shark will have its problems eventually, which may already be present in any pad you would find since it would almost certainly be used.

Theres that dude making those OmegaGX/ITGX/whatever pads right now, but I've heard mixed reviews about them and theres no way in hell i'd drop $300 on something homemade that aesthetically looks like shit (link below). He also seems to hype his shit a little much and possibly make up some figures. Tried telling me he's sold 300 pads. mmmmNAH

edit - I would say try to find a new or good condition used RedOctane Ignition 3.0 or something comparable (foam insert pad), although I haven't looked into the ones produced by other companies, so I can't vouch for their reliability.

To bounce off the previous poster:
http://www.precisiondancepads.com/index.php?

These are your best bet by far. The pads have been play tested at a big ITG/DDR/PIU tournament, and I didnt really hear any poor reviews. There are also multiple demo videos and what not of people passing 15's on the pads(Not great scores, but they also werent the best players). Most prominent ITG players think the developer is a little sketchy, but only because of his views on dance games(Basically if you play with the bar, or any sort of speed gimmicks or anything, you arent playing right).

The only thing that hasnt been thoroughly tested on these pads is their endurance for high level players. Basically, if you're playing in the 9-14 range, get these pads. If you're playing 14+'s often, then honestly any metal home pad is kind of shit so you may as well get this one anyways.

I've heard that they work really well when they work. But I've read accounts from multiple people on forums who had troubles with theirs off the bat or within a very short amount of time. Granted, the dude making them has always offered to replace them, but it's just a really long wait time I guess and I still can't justify dropping 3 bills on a DDR pad no matter how bad I want to play lol

and regarding the guy making them, I hate to say anything negative since I don't know him personally and he does seem to be a super nice dude. But I just can't believe that he's sold 300 of these.

Build your own. http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/vi...id=3350&page=1

Lots of good information in that link. If anything, it will give you some ideas and you can let your creativity go from there. IF you are looking something that looks better.. http://www.monkeyfighter.com/ddrpadproject.html Try that. I like the all wood look, but to each his own. If you have any questions, i'm sure I would be able to help you out.

I've had the Omega GX pad for a few weeks now so I can vouch that it works extremely well.
I've read about people having problems as well and the problem almost always has to do with the global offset settings in Stepmania. (most people who buy these pads play stepmania anyways)

Yeah, I just got my Omega ITGx and it's pretty good. My form I shit, so I kind of drop Way off's here and there, haha.

The Omega series is probably your best bet tbh, people say it's bad because it's really thin even though those people most likely never tried it yet.
