Although as stated before, no one knows the actual number of people on the planet. Most countries in the world do not have a decently accurate census like we have in first world countries.

The number of people in the world is just estimated based on birth and death rates. This number is also intentionally underestimated, to make sure we don't claim milestones such as 7 billion long before they actually happen or anything.

We probably actually hit 7 billion a couple months ago.

But keep in mind, the birth rate is only still significantly positive in non first world countries, we are a population that is beginning to peak.
