Portal [Interesting Physics]
Ah 4chan thank you for blowing my mind.
But anyway, Portal provides questions to some interesting physics, not to say they are real by any means but if they were, what are the answers and outcomes to these questions? Put portal 1 on wall Put portal 2 on wall 10 feet away Put rope through the portals Tie rope Does it make a circle? Or a line? and Put a Portal on a table Put a portal on a wall Throw the Table through the portal What happens? EDIT - New questions Put a portal on a board Put a portal on another board directly over the first so gravity pulls the object though them continuously. Now as the object flies between them put the boards together Does the object explode/implode/rip to shreds/enter a new dimension/infinitely expand due to surpassing speed of light?

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
The 2nd one would cause a black hole due to infinite duplication.

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
If you do it you will break the universe.

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
I think the first one will make a line but i don't know if you will be able to tie both sides so perhaps a circle. (I don't know a lot about portals)

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
Landing a portal on a curved surface would totally **** up space-time. :V

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
Step 1:
Shoot portal at the sky Step 2: Shoot portal at a wall. Step 3: Enter portal (wearing proper space atire) Step 4: Walk on undiscovered planet/find the edge of the universe? Option 2, for Christians: Step 1: Die, go to heaven (hopefully) Step 2: Shoot portal on surface. Step 3: Shoot portal on Earth and enter. Step 4: Walk around Earth while dead/get your buddies in heaven.

Shoot portal at wall, shoot portal at crotch, stick head through portal, become dick head.

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
The second one wouldn't work because portals can only be placed on surfaces larger than they are. They also can't be on moving surfaces (relative to the earth I guess)

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
1. Makes a line
2. In general, it'd just make a sort of dual-prong table-knot. 3. The object would just fall at its normal rate but you'd be in a tunnel composed entirely of the heights of the two boards |

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
Phynx, if you recall during both Portal 1 and Portal 2, if you played it, any time a surface moves the portal attached to it is destroyed. The scenarios involving one portal going into another and the boards being moved together are invalidated.

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
my question would be, when you create the portal, what happens to the surface you placed the portal on?

Re: Portal [Interesting Physics]
1. It will make an infinite line.
2. The second one doesn't work. If you were able to put the portal on the table then that means that the table is larger than the portal, meaning it wouldn't fit through another portal since they are all the same size in the game. 3. The object would still hit terminal velocity since air would be present (unless you were in a vacuum), so it wouldn't accelerate indefinitely. |
