Why I stopped playing
For anyone who might care, I figured out why.
My mind feels so lonely that I can't play single player games anymore. If there's a single player game I want to play, I watch a YouTuber with a commentary do it. FFR almost never has people in multiplayer when I get on, so I can't get back into the game. I would totally play Osu! Mania because of the massively active community, but setting the themes and settings up are difficult for me. It's the same with learning guitar, I only have interest in it when learning with my teacher, or else I feel alone, therefore developing the practice necessary to achieve the progress my brain desires is not possible. At first I thought I just lost interest in the game - but it was just me feeling lonely playing by myself.

Maybe you should get on discord and play SM. Sharing/talking about scores may help you not feel alone.

Re: Why I stopped playing
Recently there has been quite a bit of people playing in multi. I don't know if there use to be a lot of people back then so I can't really compare it.

Re: Why I stopped playing
I'd play multi if it didn't lag me so much - it's a big barrier to MP being more active

Re: Why I stopped playing
Hey Rapta,
So it's funny in a way, in that I have the same issue as you with everything that I do. Ironically, that's actually the reason I love FFR and Stepmania; because I don't actually need friends to enjoy it, and I can play the game as I'm used to living my life: alone. Sure, there's people here or there that share scores, but mine definitely aren't good enough to be worth sharing or bragging about, but that's okay, because they make me feel good and proud. I can compare to how I was a month ago and say "wow, I can get 2% higher on this now!", which is a sense of pride I don't get in anything else. What's nice as well though, is that there is a sizable community built up around these arrow key games, completely separate from Osu!Mania (which I 100% agree with you on; I can't set it up). Sure, some people are a bit more... jaded than others, and there's a lot of rubbish thrown around, but for the first time in my life in this kind of community, I actually feel like I have friends. Honestly, from what I've seen here, a LOT of people on FFR really like and respect you, and care for you, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous of you in some ways for that. I think Stepmania/FFR is interesting in that, while it is inherently single player, it's single player in a sense of allowing multiplayer in the form of discussion and comparison, and building up a community and friendships from that common passion. I hope if nothing else you stick around the community; I'd love to get to know you better and such from all the good things I've heard and seen about you. Also, let me know if you ever want to play multiplayer games together, I'd be down whenever as long as it's for PC (no consoles since broke uni student life); my steam id is Celirra if you want to add me up or somethin'. Have a good one, friend.
