Re: FFR Day of Silence
I would love to hear how this event is working out for its participants but, would you look at that, they can't post.
Funny how that works out.

Re: FFR Day of Silence
I may have not posted since "Forever ago", but I found something to actually post about now..
I'll admit forums might be tad hard to do a Day of Silence, but what I want to know is why other people are giving rzr **** about it. For one thing, I love how people are claiming how this does nothing, yet they can come on here and poke fun and sarcasm about an honest effort. You say this honest effort is doing nothing? Well I believe it's like putting yourself in their shoes and seeing what it's like for them. Some of us like to empathize. The funniest thing is, all the haters are giving it so much attention. So I must rofl at the attention they are giving it with their meaningless posts, yet their claim that the EVENT does nothing. If rzr hadn't posted this event, no one would have noticed any difference between today and yesterday, but it seems like just making this thread got the attention of individuals of all kinds, whether they wanted to take part or not. Why are people trying to pick on others because of something they believe in? If you don't like it, get over it and accept the fact that some of us think differently than you. I apologize for my lengthy post, but I believe that after a year, it had to happen eventually. Props to your rzr. You have tried. Count me in if it's not too late, even if I did go against it posting just now :P

The one real effect threads and activities like this DO have is to point out to neutral observers (i.e. those who aren't GLBT or anti-GLBT) that there really is suffering and discrimination going on even if they don't know about it. I support this effect, and a controversial post in a thread like this would help that to happen.

Some by chic at our school wrote everything on a dry erease board she carried around with her. She smacked me with it when I would not read it.
This is very dumb. And Gay/By/Lesbian/Furry/Transvestite/Black People (JK)/Etc. scare me.... |

Re: FFR Day of Silence
This thread assumes:
1) That people read this thread. 2) That people care. 3) That people can actually tell when you're not posting for a reason other than that you're just not at your computer / don't care about the forums / don't see any threads worth posting in. This does not work electronically. It only works verbally. The fact that you even attempted to do this is laughable. Want to be supportive of gay friends? How about when you're in a group of people and someone makes fun of one, you step in and say 'hey that's not cool'. This is ten thousand times more effective than just being silent for a day. |

Re: FFR Day of Silence
I'm sorry I haven't been around for the celebration. I've been coughing up blood and shaking and stuff. ): Anyway, congrats to everyone who lasted. I lasted at both school and here. Yay! :]
