Re: How open are you about fiffering IRL?
Almost all of my friends know that i play stepmania/ITG. A good majority of my friends plays music games, including my girlfriend. I don't find it necessary to bring it up but if i'm asked, i'll be cool about it. I enjoy it and it's fun and i don't think anyone needs to feel any shame in talking about it.

Re: How open are you about fiffering IRL?
I talk about it when it fits. Most people who know me well know I play / sometimes chart stuff. A lot of my co-workers know I play and it's lead to some funny facial reactions. Especially when I told them about FFR pissing me off enough to punch out a monitor. We've had a few of music discussions out of it which is pretty awesome.

You've got to work on that. That's not good.

Re: How open are you about fiffering IRL?
In high school I played FFR in my study hall and computer classes when I had nothing to do. I was around mid-high D5 material back then. Some people thought it was cool and some had to be those jerks that would make fun of me by calling me a no life, or a robot, or that it's easy and they could do better, or try to make it harder for me to play by putting their hand in front of the screen or typing on my keyboard (they just jealous). My teachers were usually fine with me playing especially my programming teacher he liked watching me play.
I only play at my home or my friends house now since my family and friends are cool with it and got tired of attracting the jerks. My parents sometimes try to brag about my FFR skills to other strangers though which I don't like... Oh yeah and apparently I memorize the notes to every song :v

Re: How open are you about fiffering IRL?
I showed my friends, most of them tried, 1 of them who struggled to pass free space has now been playing for about 4 months and is now d2 material, my girlfriend also plays on occasion. Its not something that i go around telling everyone that i do, but i am most certainly not ashamed of it, and i don't try and hide it, i enjoy playing it and most people enjoy seeing my progression.
Even though i have no idea how to do most of the functions on forum posts such as siggy's, signatures, quotes, or really anything else at all but im trying to be a well known player in this community Last edited by grizz13114; 02-2-2015 at 10:48 PM.. |

Re: How open are you about fiffering IRL?
I'm open to talking about FFR if someone brings it up, but it's hardly ever a topic that I expose on my own.
It turns out that several of my colleagues in university and random people have heard and/or played FFR, so it's certainly not an unknown site. Despite its decline in popularity, FFR definitely made itself known to many, many people. |

Re: How open are you about fiffering IRL?
I sometimes do, though I always feel a little self-conscious doing so. It's way easier for me if I'm in the presence of others I know are rhythm gamers, rather than just random people, or even friends.

Re: How open are you about fiffering IRL?
This happened about a year or two ago. I haven't broken anything from playing FFR in a while. I've stopped playing for scores and it's helped tremendously with the rage and has made the game a lot more fun when I do sit down to play it. Now days when I get irritated I clean my room or play something else.

I never understood why people aren't open about playing FFR. It's a game just as much as any other is.

Also I forgot to add that while in high school, I had played FFR once in my science class just to pass time with a couple of friends, and this woman comes over and gasps out of nowhere. We all spun our heads at her and she was like "omfg love this game, brings back memories" and my jaw hit the floor because iirc she was the first female FFR'er that I met in person.

Re: How open are you about fiffering IRL?
I don't mind talking about it if it comes up, especially with friends that I know play games as well since it's really no different. I actually just got an irl friend to register to the site the other day and he played a couple of games in multiplayer with me.
I'm not very good at the game but I guess I'm 'good enough' to other people who haven't ever tried out rhythm games so my family enjoys watching me play from time to time. In junior high was when I always was on FFR in public. Our entire class had registered to the site in our computer lab so it was pretty difficult for us to judge each other since we were all caught up in it. I'm just the only one to actually stay on the site after all these years.
