additional ranking past the AAA~?

hello! every time i look at rankings of anything that isnt an obscenely difficult song i always seem to see a big wall of perfects, which i guess is ok but it could use a bit more... interest. particularly when like 50 ppl got it already ¯ u¯

since this web site seems to be interested in pushing the limits of extreme accuracy (not to my personal taste... but i don't mind!!) i thought it would be an cool idea to further distinguish rankings on a song by their percentages of amazings. it wouldn't count towards any unlocks or bonuses or anything like that but it be a nice way to keep ppl on their toes to try for a "no. 1" place on a song once everything else in it's been done with

I don't play stepmania, but I think that there is a AAAA rank for getting 'Marvelous' accuracy on every arrow. I know that there is an option to do that in FFR's R^3 Engine settings, but I'm not sure if hitting every note with a 'Marvelous' rank will get you a "quadA" (or whatever they call it). Either way, it shouldn't be able to register in your profile stats because they only display your AAA's, FC's, and aquired Tier Points.

Idk, if I was actually good at this game and had like 1000 AAA's, then I'd probably be pissed if I had to play all those songs again to have achieved the best possible rank lol. Hell, I can't even imagine how long it would take me to get all 'Marvelous'[es] on Wandering Man (about a level 30 song). The window of time you'd have to hit 'Marvelous' would be very small.

mm~ tru. i definitely wouldn't feel right having it as a viewable profile stat or an "intended goal" type dealie, and i feel like the main "event" so to speak should still be gettin the AAA/nice yellow text/tier pointz ¯ u¯ that said i feel like it'd be a nice new dimension to keep the competition fresh in a way that isnt goin for the relatively small Hard Songz ppl play

as long as it was as light a distinction as necessary i think it could work without destroying too much site form, hehe. could even keep the rank 1 and have it only come into play when "ranking" the order of users on the leaderboard page. just to keep the thing from looking so arbitrary~

the only thing that really bothers me about it at current is that ordering it by the 200 most recent (?? maybe its random??) AAAs feels a bit meaningless compared to what could be there, heh. doesn't rly give much of a 'feel' if that makes sense

Getting AAAA's on FFR is nearly impossible due to how tight the timing windows between Amazing and Perfect is. Only people who could pull off AAAA's would be high D7'ers.

well... yes. that's partially the point... i'm not suggesting it be a legitimate goal for ppl to strive for in as far as just a way to make leaderboards a little more varied & fresh. for example a rank 1 AAA with 82% amazings would get u higher up the page than a rank 1 AAA with 79% amazings, etc

there's a lot of things that seem to go into amazing accuracy it's not consistent enough for me to want to see rankings based on it

fiffer accuracy is entirely dependent on the game running optimally (i'm just mad it runs like crap for me it's probably not a horrible idea)

That would make the hi-scores more interesting, as long as it's worth the same as perfects but shows up in the hi-scores like you did better even though point-wise you didn't.
It would give people something to do and work on.
I use the amazing accuracy and it helps me play better. Overall if people tried to work on getting amazings they'd probably improve too. It makes perfects look easier to get in my opinion.
Hi-score board would look legit rather than wtf? We all got the same exact score? levelrank-wise, aaa or aaaa still a rank 1, why not then?

AA is so variable for me across any two given songs, it's not practical.

I think that if there was anything, there should be some ranking system for rates. However one of the reasons that I like FFR ranking a lot more than osu ranking is that everyone's on an equal playing ground when it comes to scoring. If you AAA a song you have the best score possible, no doubt about it. It doesn't matter how you play it, everyone's equal with how it's played. Meh I don't even know what I'm saying in this post, more of a stream of consciousness post.

not everyone uses r^3 for one reason or another (ATTN: ItsOnlyDanO) so i think the most you could do would be toggle marvs on/off on the hiscore page, and maaaaaybe add an option to sort aaa's by ma instead of time

It's even worse because each individual note in an FFR file can be offsync by as much as half the Amazing window due to how the conversion process works (notes are snapped to the nearest frame [1/30th of a second, also the size of the Amazing window], so they can be offsync by as much as half of that).

AAAA's are impossible across just about every song in FFR. Not because of how hard the songs are, but because of varying bpm's within the songs changing the way the frames required for the correct judgement compared to every note.

You would have to get a frame perfect response for every arrow in a song, and that is beyond impossible, where as a AAA even now is harboring into the zone of unfathomable with harder unforgivable songs.

What I'm really getting at, is that it doesn't come down to skill, it comes down to RNG.

sort by good count; secondarily sort AAAs by amazing

not that this matters because the game is still frame-based timing and not millisecond timing which is unreliable timing

Well, the transition to raw scoring actually happened, so there's hope that it can change. Maybe next April Fools' Day?

¯u¯;; second clarification since i'm not sure if certain people are understanding my posts. i'm not really expecting people to get AAAAs on songs. i know it's extremely difficult and *partially* why i suggested this as an idea~ so that there'd be a sensible way to measure skills amongst AAAs without having the leaderboards look so stilted all the time. intended implementation would be a thing in so far as this sorting function specifically (as per tc_halogen's post).

(in any case if getting amazings is down to some luck i'm almost certain its less so than how AAA rankings are on the current implementation of the leaderboard so i can't really see much of a counterargument in even that. being even more pedantic im sure dossar & owa got all the exact milliseconds calculated to stall & hurry their fingers for each 1/30th snapped note in a given song anyway, lol)
