Funding campaign for Soundflock, a music promoting website
I figured you guys might be interested in this as well, being the musicians and fellow music-lovers that you are.
My nephew recently started a campaign for his website idea, called SoundFlock, which you can view here: http://www.indiegogo.com/FundSoundFlock The idea is that this website will be a gateway to find songs based on your favorite genres. Your homepage will be based on your interests and will display songs of the genres that are recommended for your musical taste. Think of it as a combination of stumbleupon (except for music) and soundcloud with an added bonus of user-voted rankings on songs as well. I don't know much else to say since this isn't my project, but my nephew can! You can read more info on the website itself. He also made a promotional video for what you can expect which can be seen here: Either way, I think this definitely has potential to become a hit so check it out! You'll be doing my cousin a big favour if you decide to chip in! http://www.indiegogo.com/FundSoundFlock

Re: Funding campaign for Soundflock, a music promoting website
Serious question, how will SoundFlock be set apart from the Newgrounds Audio Portal? Both have badges, judging systems, etc. Not to mention NG already has a 5-year headstart since 2007 with millions of unique viewers and (almost) all music listed under a BY-NC-SA 3.0 Creative Commons license.

Re: Funding campaign for Soundflock, a music promoting website
My nephew asked if I could post this, since he's having some problems with his account:
This is the nephew speaking here. I’m going to be honest and say I did not know that the Newgrounds Audio Portal existed in the form it is now, so I did some research. So how will SoundFlock set itself apart you ask… Here are some examples of features SoundFlock will have to offer: - With SoundFlock you subscribe to genres you love and follow updates on any of the genres you follow. (This can range from J-core, hardstyle, indie to classical etc etc) - If you subscribe to genres you don’t have to bother with navigating categories (as you do on NG Audio) and search for music. This will be searched for and shown to you on the frontpage, which basically is your private frontpage. You can however search for new uploads and listen to those if you want to. It’s all up to you. - There's also the random button which will make you jump to a random song of your chosen genre. - We don’t offer any kind of audio upload, only links to music. So we don’t have to deal with creative commons licenses directly. (links on the website will be moderated though) - As a musician you upload you music on some uploading site and post the link on SoundFlock. Users vote your music up or down. SoundFlock will feature a stylish design (see a mockup image here: http://i.imgur.com/hCYC8.png *) with an easy-to-use interface that works together with other functions like: - If and when possible you don’t even have to click on the link to another website and play the music directly from the front page (as you can see on the imgur image, play buttons in sight on the post itself). So you don’t have to wait for another page to load - We plan on making some sort of automatic playlist option. Where you just press play on the top upload and when that song is finished it’s skips to the 2nd on the list etc. This means you can just continue with whatever you were doing and listen to music in the meantime. If you really like a song you hear, you just skip back to SoundFlock and show that track/uploader some love. - You can favorite the music you like and put them in your own playlists, or if you’re like me you can place the music you loathe in a playlist and play it on 100% when you have guests. Fun times. We will offer a lot of genres when the site launches and even more genres in the future. About the leveling, We all know that the leveling option is just a gimmick to keep the visitors a goal to reach for and keep them coming back. But it’s fun nonetheless. We might even attach some sort of perk system in the future. Newgrounds might have a head start in fanbase, but that’s not going to stop us! If our idea is as good as we think it is people will probably start to use it. It’s just a matter of time and patience. Because we offer such a broad amount of genres you can really get lost in music. Every genre has it’s own frontpage with the best of that genre showing there. You might even find music you never even knew existed. A short explanation on how the subscriptions work. Basically there are a few “main” genres and hundreds of subgenres. For example, you have electronic music as a main genre but in that genre you have house, hardstyle, chiptune and everything else. You can subscribe to the genre in it’s entirety or subscribe to some of the subgenres. All will be shown on your frontpage. *Not the definitive look of the website. The look is subject to change.

If soundflock does not host the music, what will be done about
-Links to music that go down later on -Links that don't go to music at all ?

Re: Funding campaign for Soundflock, a music promoting website
Quote:
It will follow the standards like displaying a message saying "Sorry, this song is no longer available" much like when a video is no longer available on youtube. I don't think it will be an issue as many media network websites deal with it in this way. Content just disappears wether it's removed because of infringement, removed by uploader or removed because of a different reason. And that's what will be displayed as message. About the links that don't go to music: At launch, SoundFlock will have support for controlled websites such as Soundcloud, NewGrounds or likewise websites with an active miniplayer. We will look into allowing linking of other URLs, but we will have to do testing first to see how this will work out.
