Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
I know that numerous threads about Rubik's cubes have been created, but I actually haven't seen any that deal with speedsolving techniques. I created this thread so that people could discuss strategies for the fastest possible solve.
With that said, I've been trying to learn the Fridrich method. I'm taking my time to learn the algorithms, starting with PLL. I've memorized about seventeen of them by now; however, the algorithms for some of the cases are very awkward and slow. For example, take a look at cases 5 and 6. http://www.cosine-systems.com/cubest...ntablepage.php Those algorithms are ridiculously awkward for me to perform. Does anyone have any faster set of moves? They can actually be longer algorithms as long as they have been proven to be faster.

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
A tip, I use a different method for Case #1, fewer steps:
F2, U, L, R', F2, L', R, U, F2 Or if you wanted to rotate the pieces counterclockwise, just turn U counterclockwise as opposed to clockwise above: F2, U', L, R', F2, L', R, U', F2 Case #2 is useless IMO, Cases #3 and #4 I use, so I would suggest learning 'em. Which brings us to the #5 and #6 you wanted to know about =P #5 seems to work fine; in fact I might try to learn this one.

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
I have most of my moves confined to the two-face [R, U] metric so that execution is fast instead of clunky and awkward.

It's a bunch of finger tricks that could help you speed up.

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
In "You Would Give Me Kiss If I Were On Soccer Team" by Group X -Arabian Rap Sensations (the band that sings Shfifty Five), Hashmeer discovers he doesn't need to play soccer to get girls...he uses his mad rubix cube skills. It's hilarious, and any rubix cube fanatic will definitely get a kick out of it.
This isn't the funniest version of the song, but it's all that's on youtube right now. The video is only 3 minutes - the rest of the video is credits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ft-jUdFV-FM The album is "Stepping on the Crowtche of Your Americain Presidaint" if you're interested in buying/downloading the song. |

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
Do any of these work for a 4x4 cube or a 5x5 cube?

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
Of course not. Unless you make the 4x4 into a 3x3 to solve it, but then you still may get parity.

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
I solve the 3x3 Dan Browns way and so far my best time with that is 38.22 seconds. I just started leaning Fridrecks way 3 days ago but my best time so far is like 1:11.34 and that is not even close to my Dan Brown record. I need to practice more on Fridrecks way.
What are everyone elses record on the 3x3 for Dan Browns way and Fridrecks way?

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
45 seconds with the "Dan Brown" method, I'm trying to learn the Fridrich method but the whole process is pretty confusing.

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
Well my fastest time was using danbrown/fridrich method... kinda like using both methods since i know PLL... was 22 seconds

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
lol so you do both methods for different parts? hmmm I might try that. 22 seconds is fast.

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
I got about 30 seconds using the Fridrich method.

I get the top cross, then orient all corners using 1 single algorithm, then PLL. So yeah, if anybody is trying to learn fridrich method, start with PLL because its easiest to learn... (since there are only 21 algs)

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
Great. I created this thread specifically to avoid the topic of fastest times, and everybody starts posting their fastest times.
Could some speedcubver at least share where he/she learned the best PLL algorithms?

Re: Rubik's Cubes - Tips and Tricks
Haha, I'm trying to learn how to solve one, but er... I've been at a loss since Christmas, when I got one...
Guy at work I gave mine to, solved it in 2 minutes 20, and even that shocked me. *EDIT* Haha, first post on FFR forums...nice |
