Vinyls
A friend of my friend has a dad who doesn't know about ebay shenanigans and was short on room somehow in his huge house. So I made a thread to talk about vinyls and stuff. This thread won't make sense anyway, so might as well enjoy it. We had some great drama tonight. FFR never disappoints. Here's a picture!
As I said, I slowly started thinking about stopping simfilling for FFR. I just don't have time anymore. I finished most of my WIPs; I only have one left... If you want it done, cheer me up. Otherwise, count the number of albums in the photo and multiply that amount with their average value (~$10). I ended up over $900 total. Mind you I got this box free. I'm ecstatic. Tonight was a great night. I also got hired Thursday by my teacher at University to work on supersymmetry particles and dark matter. I'll work on this during my whole summer in order to gain experience in a lab (and in C++ simulations), and this will help out the atlas.ch project. Really serious stuff. This is the team who found the first evience for the Higgs Boson... Can you believe it? I repeat: I am NOT making this up. Discuss! |

Re: Vinyls
I personally like to go for quality over quantity in any collection. Unfortunately for me, I'm not so much of a vinyl guy (although I think the format is esthetically pleasing), and I'd rather have a smaller disc library that can actually be transferred to digital over vinyls which have limited use. There's more to it, but that's not saying I wouldn't get myself some just for its appeal - like everybody. Fact is, I just don't have the funds for it, and I've had a far longer relationship with CD.
It's a pleasure to see a second coming of physical release collectors, it's just a shame that it's not equally proportionate in both formats. My overall stance clarified here: Quote:

Re: Vinyls
Oh, but there is quality in that box. I just didn't bother taking them out. ;P That's why I'm so excited. Lots of prog rock in here.

Re: Vinyls
The only vinyl I own is Daft Punk Alive 1997, but you bet that I'm damn proud of it.

@MarioNintendo: If I think it is Si on avais besoin d'une cinquième saison, that's basically the perfect record to own on a vinyl. You've probably come across a good stash, hope you get some gems in there. |

Re: Vinyls
The only Vinyls I possess is Dream Theater's "Black Clouds And Silver Linings" album. (Note this album is not that old.)
I do not possess a player though x.x' I really need to get one just to enjoy it once. |

Re: Vinyls
I guess I'm pretty jealous then. :P
By the way, I think I'd probably start a vinyl section if I could get a hang on a Amon Tobin's ISAM copy. They're still too pricey on CD so I guess it wouldn't hurt to make the extra reach... |

Made me think of this : http://www.thevinylfactory.com/vinyl...vinyl-release/
Make sure to hear it, because it's amazing : https://soundcloud.com/dustandgrooves/white-album-side-1-x-100 Also, I might be interested for that 5 Saison vinyl if it's in good condition. (supposing you want to sell that beauty)

Re: Vinyls
Just dropping to say that Rutherford Chang's concept is the bomb.
I should also add that my favorite vinyl is a french reading of a Batman and Robin adventure. Can't quite remember the name.. Last edited by Crazyjayde; 01-19-2014 at 03:42 AM.. |

Re: Vinyls
I remember that too, it was something called "Les aventures de Batman et Robin", with very poor reading from actors that showed no emotion. I can't find that online...

Re: Vinyls
I have only recently begun collecting vinyls myself. I am in love with them. I am also very jealous of that box you got given.
I know my parents and some of my uncles have a buttload of vinyls, and they rarely (or never?) play them anymore. I hope that they might be willing to give some to me, but it feels bad to actually ask. Anywho, I love vinyls. Also, congrats on that job, that sounds super epic!

Re: Vinyls
My parents have a large collection. Thriller, David Bowie, Zep, etc. I'm mad they got rid of their record player; I wanted to take some of those for a spin! I've been looking at buying a turntable but they're way out of my price range

Re: Vinyls
And I thought The White Album & Thriller were a common item in a vinyl collection. I think my uncle or even my parents have one if not both.

Re: Vinyls
I own a couple of albums on vinyl but don't actually have anything to play them on yet. Most of them came with "deluxe editions" of albums, but others were just limited edition shit I wanted to grab.
I've got uh an original pressing of the 4xLP version of Hold Your Colour a limited edition baby blue Busdriver 7" 180gram 2xLP of Eskmo's self titled album the vinyl reissue of All Hail West Texas and (unfortunately) the 2xLP version of Pendulum's Immersion (I could make some serious cash off this one though lmao) might pick up the vinyl pressing of R+7 soon considering it comes with a cool free poster more of a cassette collector myself though. cassette culture is some cool shit |
