Serious poll: How would you feel about FFR using ads?

This is purely hypothetical. Do not start any rumors or anything, this is just an idea.

With the development of FFR, as the game improves it gets harder and harder for Synth to work on it and keep it free. To improve FFR from a state of great to amazing, or good to great or crappy to great or however you see the game currently, takes either lots of time, lots of money to blow, requiring the users to pay for something OR putting up ads.

Now, with some of the ideas that have been pitched out, like customizable game avatars like O2Jam/gunbound where you can buy tons of items to customize your character, or music towns or whatnot, this would take a lot of work and probably cost money to develop. Coding something as revolutionary as this game in flash as you can guess is not an easy task.

In any case, if FFR were to remove some of the taskbar stuff on the left that overcrowds it, and put up little small banner ads for things (small - like 128x40 or something) what would be your views on this? I'm not talking about popups - no, nothing like that.

As long as there are no popups, it's all good. I think it's necessary in the development of the game.

I don't think it would be that big of a deal, most people ignore adds, as long as they don't make noise, plus it's a good way to bring in the money easily.

Even if it was pop ups I wouldn't mind. I'm getting about 50 a day now so what would a few more make? I don't have a problem with it.

There's plenty of space between the top right menu that is worthless and the gray shit way at the top for a banner ad. That'd be a good spot for it.

I don't care about banners or ads or popups (Heart to mozilla browsers) so do what you like... will never bother me unless they're the kind that take up all my resources.

I'm fine with it, as long as there aren't any popups, or any ads that are distracting (such as ads with sound, ads that flash, etc.).

And I didn't know whether to vote for the first or second option, because I don't care about popups but I -do- care about sound.

No, ads wouldn't be so bad. If you need to advertise to get money to support the project and keep the site free, that's fine. But I don't like pop up/under ads and I definitely don't want ads talking to me. The ones with sound are probably more annoying than pop-ups. If you really *had* to use them, I'd deal with it. But I'd rather see banner ads. They just sit on the site and take up a little space. Those are pretty easy to ignore and I believe you get paid as long as the banner is displayed, it doesn't have to be clicked on, so that would be fine. Of course, if you had so many that it became hard to find the actual site content, that would bug me, but I seriously doubt you're talking about anything that bad. I'd prefer seeing and dealing with some ads than having to pay to access the site.

I'm for up for any almost any kind of ad. I wouldn't even mind ones with sound if I didn't think it may ruin the game. Just think: you start playing "Stalled out on Sushi Bars" and you're doing great. Then all of a sudden... "HEY BUY PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN ON DVD!!!!" That would most definitely suck. I have one question, too, though: Why'd we get rid of those ads we had before? You know what I'm talking about. Before the new design, there were ads from yahoo I believe.

P.S. Is it just me or did I use a lot of colons in there?

I'm the same way. I think I voted for no popups, but popups would be ok with me. I just would hate sound.

Just make sure popups don't appear while one is playing.

I don't care about ads at all. I don't have flash installed on Firefox and it blocks popups anyway.

I don't mind at all. It's a good idea, IMO, so Synth can get some money elsewhere instead from his own pocket. as long pop-ups don't appear while playing the game, it's all good with me. I have a pop-up blocker, anyways.
