The Sony Hack: Cancelled Release of "The Interview" on Dec.25
Quite a big thing happening on the internet & on news as of late but there hasn't been any real thread on talk over this over here on FFR, so sharing for the people that haven't heard of it or seen info being thrown around regarding it.

I honestly would have liked to see the movie myself as it was gaining a ton of attention in news, but I guess it could have been seen as a bad move to attack someone in high power. According to sources, it really feels like the United States is being pushed into a position to publically denounce North Korea. I have no idea what could be gained from this, but it's pointing to something nasty, especially considering the hack started as early as mid-November and is still ongoing. Hackers claim to have stolen over 100 terabytes of data so far, and exposed over 250 gigabytes of info to the public. More articles and related press info can be found by searching either "The Sony Hack" or "North Korea Sony Hack" on google. Last edited by gold stinger; 12-17-2014 at 11:06 PM.. |

I'd be amused, quickly followed by mortified if a bad Seth Rogen movie sparked an international war.
I really hope it doesn't... there's definitely better ways to deal with North Korea.

If Seth Rogen & James Franco started World War III that would definitely be one for the books.
I can see them right now joking about it while smoking a jay and then just awkwardly stop laughing/play it down. Looked up some other sources, according to a Sony Spokesman, “Sony Pictures has no further release plans for the film,”. Could entail that they won't be having a theater release for the movie, or could be scheduled to a later date, but no one knows as of right now. Re: The Sony Hack: Cancelled Release of "The Interview" on Dec.25
I think that Sony's ultimate move should be to release The Interview with hardcoded Korean subtitles directly to news outlets, free download on the internet, send it private torrent trackers, anywhere they can send it.
They've evidently already resigned to losing the millions they put into the film by cancelling it, so they might as well use it strategically for PR: releasing it would put public attention on the film instead of the hacked data.

I love how NK are upset about this but when Team America came out they weren't fussed about that

What a let down. I was really looking forward to this. Why exactly are we giving in to North Korea? What could they possibly do?

Supposedly. Stupidity on the level of a Toddler playing with guns.
I've heard that awhile ago they pointed missiles at United States, people got into a panic, and the U.S. released a statement saying that the missiles they're using don't even have a long enough range to be shot at them. The result, North Korea buys bigger missiles and then aims them towards U.S.A. Edit: Hollywood people on twitter are weighing in. Last edited by gold stinger; 12-18-2014 at 09:31 AM.. |

they wouldn't attack the US directly, they'd probably attack SK first since they could have a missile on target before SK had time to react but dat's a different topic |

They'd definitely attack American soldiers stationed close to NK first, esp the ones in SK. So there's that.
Really disappointed that this was cancelled. My brother and I wanted to go see it. Meh. |

I think this more or less just drives up the number of how many people are actually going to see the movie.
Hopefully Sony re-thinks about their decision over community backlash and decide to do a theater release in January or something. |

Was not expecting a Real-Life version of the movie, starring the FBI as the FBI, the CIA as the CIA, and North Korea as North Korea. Last edited by gold stinger; 12-18-2014 at 01:32 PM.. |

Re: The Sony Hack: Cancelled Release of "The Interview" on Dec.25
North Korea is a laughing stock of a country. They've been making empty threats for the past 30+ years, so why anyone took this seriously is beyond me. I guess if you use the term 9/11 it makes everyone's sphincters tighten.
Also..it was a threat by a bunch of hackers, what damage could a bunch of hacktivists really cause? As for the movie, couldn't give two shits about it. Looked retarded anyway.
