Re: Songs of the Week (July 26, 2013)
I honestly didn't think MFDFY was that bad. It's not great or anything, but it's not bad.
I have no issues with the first 200 or so notes. Kinda wished there were triples going to the cymbal crashes between 130 and 210 but not a huge deal. At 210 there's a [34] jump followed by a bunch of [134] triples. Why isn't that first jump also a triple? They're all going to the same sound so either they should have been all jumps or all triples. It seems really nitpicky but when there's a lot of problems like this it starts to add up. It happens again soon after with 16th jumptrills going to the guitar, but the same guitar then gets stepped as a single note only a few beats later. After that you decided at 360 to just step percussion as jumps and leave everything else as single notes. After the previous section is just feels incredibly weak for such a heavy song and especially with such a difficult ending waiting at the end. From 470 to 690 is good for the most part. Layering those cymbal crashes would have been nice though. The breakdown starting at around 880 was very underwhelming. Like the section at 360, this would have benefitted from a lot more jumps. The song has such a heavy sound to it, and yet it's stepped so lightly. And then we get to that intense jumpstream. Feels a bit like Extratone Pirate's little sister; not nearly as fast and with easier patterns. It's such a massive difficulty spike but otherwise it wasn't awkward to play. Just that one section that Dossar pointed out earlier was really unfun. I really don't think it's a bad file but there's so many things that I think could have been done better. 6/10 - Noticeable problems but at least it had fun moments. |

I really enjoy the file My Fxxkin Desire For You. What other files have jumpstreams that fast?

Seeing My Fxxkin Desire For You in-game gives me hope that standards are low enough to allow some of my stupid hard files in this game as well.

Realtalk though the other three files are good and it's a shame they are getting no attention.
Please at least attempt to ignore the elephant in the room.

Would love to play your stupid hard files if they don't include trills, jacks, or bursts like Seeing My Fxxkin Desire For You. For me, that's what made the file fun, not seeing all those kind of patterns inside the file.

Re: Songs of the Week (July 26, 2013)
Dead Throne was kind of inconsistent, but I respect the issues with stepping this kind of "commercial" metal song (for lack of a better term lol).
Very hard to make it varied AND ubertechnical, so you went with varied and it wound up fun. Some of the 1-handed minijack patterns (12)1 for example were a little awkward to me but overall I enjoyed it. Atop the World had one silly error at the beginning, the yellow arrow is clearly a different chord than the following one and having both fall on the down arrow was weird. The ending patterns were kind of trolly- rainbow arrows with split patterns are difficult to read, much more so than the rest of the file. Try to make them more rolly, and less 13 or 42, in my opinion. In general I am opposed to this kind of file, as easy files do not need to be highly technical to be enjoyed. There's a trend of many 20-35 difficulty files being expressivemania piano solos which is annoying to me, but I've gone on about this before so I won't go on about the issue. The file itself is clearly well stepped and enjoyable. Appropriately short and varied too, which makes it a lot better in my eyes.

Though I do say that mfdfy is meh. Its not good but its not horrible. It just takes a bit to appreciate the file as a whole (which I have come to terms with other stepartists that I don't like their files for the most part and despite that I hink that some other simfilers should not have anymore files in fiffer, but thats my opinion and I'm meh at stepping so I can't formulate a proper opinion on who makes objectively good files or not [round 5 of the 7th official anyone?])

FKKIN i quite enjoyed. and the ending JS i found surprisingly friendly! i just had to pseudo mash the very end JS bit where there gets to be a bit ridiculous one-handed stuff...
Blue lightning i think is much easier than throne. I'd switch the ratings, or even put blue as a 62, and mini jacks... bleh
