Default DDReam crashes when trying to open mp3

I've never had this problem before. Tried opening a new song after months of not touching DDReam and it just stops working. I can open .ds files perfectly fine.

Even if I try to open the mp3 instead of the .ds it crashes. idk man

I'm 75% sure ddream doesnt like variable bit rate mp3's.

if the song is like 20+ minutes this could happen, or also just a very large file size

sometimes mp3's are encoded wrong (especially if you downloaded it from like a torrent or somewhere you know you're not supposed to) try to re-save it with audacity (at the risk of lowering the file size/possibly quality)

uncommon bitrates also sometimes break ddream

if ddream is failing to open ALL mp3's though try redownloading the program.
(ps try restarting your computer, unplug it, wait for 30 seconds after all its lights are off, and then plug it back in and turn it back on)

It's happening with literally every mp3 I try to open. Has nothing to do with file size or song length

Already deleted and re-downloaded DDReam. No change

Do you have authentication whatever turned on?(screen dims and a message pops up asking if you're sure you want to do the thing you're about to do)

Friendship with ddream studio ended.

Arrow vortex is my best friend now.

It looks good but I'm kinda a don't move if it's not broken kinda person. I rarely have issues with ddream.

That said it seems really good to make x-mod files, and mac has spawned my interest in attempting another one... So I'm gonna tinker with it later, but I know people have kinda been moving to it lately. Seems pretty good though.

if you are worried about transitioning at all, the controls are almost identical to ddream, and you can change to waveform to look just like ddream (along with other options in case you prefer a different style waveform).

I am kind of this person myself. What ultimately made me switch over is that DDReam kept crashing on me when inputting notes for long sessions at a time if there's lots of notes in a song and is a moderately long song (4-7mins)

I'm not worried about that, I use waveform to sync and that's it for the most part. Just I don't like to upgrade to something unless I see a reason to use it more than what I'm already using.

I planned on giving it a test run on two files I'm working on sometime after I finish charting them. Because I like making X-mod, just DDReam sucks and SM is literally cancer for doing more than syncing songs using sheet music. (And I do base sync in ddream anyways, so it's still pretty useless.)

This is a very stupid solution but it worked for me.
I was having the exact same problem, any song i opened it crashed. I think i asked hi19 and he told me, try minimizing after you open the song. It worked.
