Default Using Kanji in Song Info?

I'm trying to figure out how to use kanji in the song info of a simfile. I've tried searching on the forum and on Google in general, and the only method I've seen (put the romaji in the .sm file and let the game translate) didn't work for me. Anyone know for sure how to make this work? I'm using SM 5.0.7; do I have to use a different version?

I think you just have to manually edit the simfile with an editor that will save it as UTF8. I don't know what editor to use. Try asking on the Otaku's Dream forum, the simfiles there tend to have kanji in the title and subtitle a lot.

I think so.

This thread explains it as well.

Most texts in Web should be encoded as UTF-8, but some maybe as Shift_JIS or etc. If the characters are garbled or "mojibake", and you can't fix those, try this:
http://www.kashim.com/kanjitranslator/index.html

This soft has Japanese UI but pretty easy to use. Open this soft, drag&drop files on it, select UTF-8 and press "変換" button to convert. This overwrites the files so it's better to create backups before converting.

Thank you both for your help. I was able to get it to work using the first method in Tsniper's post by changing the encoding in Notepad to UTF-8.
