Earth's still pretty good. I wonder what the estimated cost of this would be (can I count the trillions of dollars with my two hands?)

I mean it would be cool but pretty unnecessary right now. Why plan to send people before having an elaborate ecosystem and architecture built on the planet with sustaining sources of energy/food/water?

It's nice to see someone making an attempt at space travel. Hope something good comes out of it.

I'm not really convinced. It is incredibly fishy considering they want to you to pay to sign up.

On the one hand, it could be to weed out the 4channers. On the other hand, it DOES kinda smell fishy.

As much as I want to believe that this is for real (seriously, designing life support so people can survive the trip is the hard part, best to get that out of the way first), I just can't. Maybe it's that cynical old man in me starting to rear his bald head.

There are so many ways this can fail even if they put together billions upon billions needed for funding.

I mean, what about the technology? It's hard enough to land a rover on mars. Do they even have proof of concept of sustained flight for 7+ months carrying all of the equipment necessary to live there and set up a sustainable system and land properly on the surface with some modicum of probability of success? :S

You'd have to land like 100+ tonnes of equipment on the surface if you plan to stay there. I'm pretty sure nobody has figured out how to do that yet. Also, pretty sure they still haven't solved even the most basic problems such as dust and the ability to sustain storms on mars. Not to mention we know there are microorganisms on the surface now. What about medical staff? What happens if someone gets infected? Quarantine? The infection could be completely unknown to us.

What's NASA"s take on this?

Sounds like a horrible idea. lmao

Even if every single person on the planet devoted the next 10 years of their life to making this happen, would it be possible?

Does earth have the neccesary resources to establish interplanetary civilization?

just smells like they want guinea pigs for an experiment to me. The idea of space travel sounds scary enough for me, so no thank you!

even if they can pull this off in the next 10 years, I'm fine with the planet I have right now.
