Just do everything in the sm editor.
Create a new folder, dwi, and get a good song to stepfile. Use win bpm or something to find the EXACT BPM, or very close. If not than its going to be alot harder to stay onbeat. Now, just go into the edit/sync area. And there you go, alot of the instructions are right there...so like...make arrows using the numbers 1,2,3,4. You can go into player options and change arrow speed to make them farther apart. You can slow the music speed too, to make it easier.

You left out finding the gap, that's one of the most important parts.
Use cooledit and auto adjust for gaps. Most people don't know gap just goes by milliseconds. |

If you want some songs to practice on there should be quite a few good ones at ocremix.org....
