It depends. If you become really good at FFR, hitting the arrows just becomes second nature. You don't necessarily have to do bad when you don't pay attention. I often blank out on marathon songs and the boring easy ones and still mange to SDG.

It is funny when your friends watch you play and think it's so easy and they could do it, but when they try to play they fail miserably. ^^

LOL, I'm kinda opposite, I have to be in the zone to play FFR. If not, then no PA...

Yeah, I zone completely out. Unless I'm with my friends playing it then I talk a lot while playing and I can still do pretty fair. But otherwise, my concentration goes to the arrows.

i don't zone out, i just react. i'm in total concentration the whole time if i want to get a good score; it just doesn't take that much thinking after a certain amount of time. it's like typing, though. you don't think about that at all, and yet you can type 600 letters in a minute while simply reacting to someone's speech and copying it down word for word on a computer page. that is just as amazing, to me, as playing FFR songs with upper-BPM 16ths. it's just not seen as a practical skill, like reading words or typing, so it amazes people. but yeah, "i can't even read that," or "i can't even think that fast," seems to come up every time. also, "wow, you memorized that, didn't you, cuz there's no way you could do it otherwise," or something along those lines, is common.

on a song difficult and lower, i zone out

But anything harder, i concentrate, making sure i hit all the arrows as best I can

When i play for my friends, they usually say"how can you see the arrows?!?! i cant even see them"

I don't really pay attention to the arrows, but I can still see them. I actually do better when I don't concentrate on them. I can actually get up to 600 combo that way =) If I'm not thinking about something, I start to panic when I have over 100 combo, so I lose my place on the keyboard.

That's true, I get that a lot too. I don't really process the arrows much anymore either. After a while I think our brains beak up streams of arrows into familiar patterns, and your fingers pick off the arrow patterns instead of the individual arrows themselves. It makes it seem like you're processing faster.
