Switching to downscroll
Because it's like the conventional scrolling of rhythm games since beatmania. Ages ago I remember Ghakimx told me about how great it was to read downscroll or something but I gave up quickly because it bored me.
Now I just want my Stepmania experience to help me to easily master any other rhythm game, thus being able to read downscroll easily. I began this yesterday, I think I'm making progress ; I'm enough motivated to not give up till I'll be done with that. It's interesting to see how my experience helps me to accelerate the obtainment of that downscroll reading skill. Do you have tips to make it even more easier ? What's best ? Playing on a high CMOD or in a low CMOD ? Does playing hard file make this quicker to learn ? Give me your tips. I think I'll be done with that in one week ; I'm taking in all the review of people who switched scrolling style.

Re: Switching to downscroll
I'd definitely say use a lower speed mod until you get used to downscroll. And good luck! I've tried to make the change myself but, ugh.

Re: Switching to downscroll
The easiest way to learn downscroll is to play another game that requires you to use downscroll lol

Re: Switching to downscroll
starting FFR I tried upscroll and didn't get to far as to passing a tricky song. Downscroll felt more comfortable to me, so I stuck to it. Changing scrolls also motivates you to play the game more because it's somewhat of a drastic change! I use 2.225 speed mod Faster than alot of players I feel comfortable playing on it DF JK being my spread. What I think will help you with perfection on a song is listening to ALL of its sounds and beats and attending to precision!

Re: Switching to downscroll
To be honest for me it doesn't feel like it makes much of a difference. I play Pop'n and IIDX on a dedicated basis and I play downscroll just fine when it comes to those games, but I am forced to play upscroll when I play something like stepmania. So to me i feel it depends on the game.

Re: Switching to downscroll
I play both styles, after I started making noteskins I learned playing downscroll so I can test how my stuff functions going both directions thats how I learned it, if you got the patience you can learn it in SM with ease

Re: Switching to downscroll
low CMOD = timing is based on anticipating patterns and preparing for them earlier
high CMOD = timing is based more on reactions with a smaller amount of anticipation downscroll vs. upscroll there isn't really any difference (preference) But I found that switching between the two at certain times you get rid of certain "bad habit" spots in files if you had any lol |

Re: Switching to downscroll
Yeah switching the speedmod down has helped a shitton for me on my downscroll endeavors.
It's not that much slower but it looks the same as 2.0 for me so it's been fantastic |

Re: Switching to downscroll
Scores after two weeks of soft training
I should probably lower my CMOD once more.

Re: Switching to downscroll
If you're playing 6k or more rhythm games on downscroll try using random/shuffle when you get better. If you're just starting out downscroll then you don't have to; as you'll probably need to memorise patterns until its hardwired into your head. Once you are familiar enough with original patterns, random will help you read patterns on the fly and get better

Re: Switching to downscroll
I'm taking all your advices in practice (except wargasm's one maybe hahaha)
I think I'm starting to get REALLY good, I feel like my training is bearing its fruits. I think I attained a certain cognitive level of reading where I'm sharply assimilating patterns instead of "trying" to hit them.

Re: Switching to downscroll
might want to just start on the speed you want to play at and adjust from there. If you increase it later you're just dividing one task.
