edit: yeah, I am trying to go for a more organic type ep. basically, the kick drum was me dabbing the mic (with foam on it) against the palm of my hand and I think the clap was broken tin foil on an old plastic fudge box from publix and the more sharp metallic tension was me jingling my house keys on a chain and that general atmosphere of noise and crunch was me crumbling paper.

obviously these were all normalized compressed time stretched and a touch of distortion/limiting on them as well. the keys and paper crumbling tracks were left alone though, other than being normalized cause my cheesey comp mic has a weak signal

edit: I lied the keys have reverb on them :>

edit again: OH I forgot the hi hat was sampled from my tambourine

Drop doesn't fit in very well, mainly because it's not in the same key as everything else. One thing a lot of people don't realize about dubstep is that even the really dirty wubby ones like Skrillex have a melodic quality to it. They stay in the same key and base their wubs around that note. Try making a sort of melody with the bass, if you can hum the bass without it sounding off, then you should be good to go :P

Aha, as soon as I added the drop, I realized that I shouldn't have. I'm gonna end up making it just that trancey genre from the intro.

I know this is for sound design so maybe you would've done this if this was a full song but, sidechain sidechain sidechain!

Gotta find the perfect balance of compression, eqing and sidechaining when it comes to "dirty/heavy/whatever" basslines. There are ways of sidechaining things really sharply without it even being audible because the gap left by the sidechain is perfectly filled with drum sounds/whatever.

Working on this for a remix competition. Might as well make an attempt, haha. Link probably won't be up for too long since they messed up making things private and I don't want this to spread too much before I'm done with it.

Working on section at around 1:00, and working on the sub being more powerful and actually useful. Thinking about removing the vocal "Make Me Hot" so I'm able to legally sell this track/mix once it's complete. Gotta love them copyrighted vocals.
