Fearful Symmetry Tournament
Fearful Symmetry Tournament (This tournament is over.) Everything in life has an opposite. Light and dark; good and evil; yin and yang. And when it comes to opposites, you can't have one without the other. So it is with mirror and nonmirror. Just like yin and yang, mirror and nonmirror exist in perfect symmetry. Perhaps you like one more than the other. But just like you have both a left and a right side, symmetrical and paired, so does the universe. Without these twin playing styles, the world cannot be considered complete. And yet, a lot of people will only play a song on mirror or nonmirror, and never try the other option. Only the best score is recorded, so it makes sense to just use the easier one. Maybe one hand is slower; maybe you read patterns on one hand easier; maybe you have mental blocks. But if that's the case, you'd better be scared, and you'd better start training your weaker hand - because for this tournament, you can't just choose mirror or nonmirror. You must play BOTH! Submitting Scores This tourney is based on raw score, because it's much more fair. For reference, you get 50 points for a perfect, 25 for a good, 5 for an average, -10 for a miss, and -5 for a boo. Unlike most tournaments, you will need to provide two scores for your song: one score on mirror, and one on nonmirror. Only the worse of the two scores will count, so make sure to do well on both (and especially make sure to submit scores on both). You can update either of your two scores at any time before the round ends; just make sure to make a new post, and not edit an old one, because it'll save me a lot of time to not have to check every single post when I update. There is no score penalty for a late submission, but I won't accept it unless you (a) have a good excuse, and (b) let me know you'll send in a late score before the end of the round, so I don't eliminate you. If you send in a score late, you still have to keep up with the schedule for the next round(s). All submitted scores must be in picture form, and include the entire perfect/great/average/miss/boo count, your username, and the date. Make sure the score is from the current round, because older scores won't be accepted. The modern engines tell you all this information already, so something like this screenshot is fine. I've circled the important parts in red. Signups/Divisions/Eliminations You must have at least 20 public FCs to sign up. This is a bit nonstandard, but it will ensure better placement. I'm planning to have 6 divisions, with the top one being for only the God Tier players who wreck FGOs. You can sign up at any point until the end of the first round. Feel free to suggest which division you should be in, but I won't necessarily put you there. All rankings depend on the sum of your scores for each round, but these rankings won't really matter until the last round. I will only eliminate players who fall far behind the rest, to the point where they probably won't catch up. This includes anyone who doesn't submit a score for a round, and might include very heavily mashed scores too, depending on how well the other players do. Note that being eliminated will disqualify you from getting any prizes, so for instance, if a division only has 2 people left at the final round, only 2 prizes will be given out for that division. Schedule This tournament will begin at 11:59 pm (New York time) on Saturday, June 4 - this is a week earlier than I first said, because there's more people signing up than I initially thought. I'll PM everyone when it starts. There will be 5 rounds, each lasting one week. Hopefully that will be enough time for everyone to be able to get scores in. I'll keep this post up to date with the end date/time of the current round. Other Rules 1. No cheating. For instance, don't try to fake scores, don't hide your skills to get put in a way worse division, and don't have a more skilled friend get scores for you. 2. Don't publicly complain about what divisions people are placed in. I'm going to try my best, but some people will always feel wrongly placed because it's impossible to guarantee huge skill gaps between the top of one division and the bottom of the next higher one. If you publicly complain about your own placement, you WILL be moved up one. (If you PM or IM me about it, I'll be much more forgiving.) 3. I have the right to change a score, choose not to accept a score, disqualify a player, and so on. If I do this and don't provide a reason, you are free to ask me for one - it might just be a mistake, and if that's the case I'll correct it. (more to come if I think of anything that needs clarification) Prizes/Donations I'm thinking of giving credits to the top 3 in each division, in a 3:2:1 ratio, but I'll increase it to 5 if I get enough participants. The number of available credits in each division will be (from top to bottom) 25%, 25%, 20%, 15%, 10%, 5%. I'd really appreciate donations (and so would anyone who's doing well in the tournament), just make sure to let me know if you send one in. I'll make sure to mention you here. Re: Fearful Symmetry Tournament
In. But I may be gone for a week around the middle of June without computer access. Soo uhhh... anyway I can just submit late scores for the first round or so?
I don't know if I WILL be gone yet or not, or exactly when I'll be gone if I do leave. But it's for a job and I can very well just tell my employer "no, I gotta play FFR!". |

Re: Fearful Symmetry Tournament
Ahahahahaha. LOVE this gimmick. Love it, love it, love it.
I'm still recovering from a donation I made to the DF 5th Custom tourney, but I suppose I could sweeten the pot with another 40K or so. The logical presumption would be to send donations to your account, but I'd like to know for sure. Also, I'd probably be effectively at the level I was at before my setup change due to the two-way requirement. A good example of that would be in the DF Welcome Back tourney, where I took 4th in D2. |

Re: Fearful Symmetry Tournament
Haha I mean it's not a huge deal, I just love tournaments. But I think you will find that within a week we will have PLENTY of people to start.
