I am at a serious loss
and don't know what the **** to do.
I've been playing stepmania (C500 with a screencut), which makes my usual ffr (1.25, big screencut) seem sooo slow. So i switched to 1.50 with no screencut. . EIGHTY SEVEN GOODS. Thats three times twenty-nine. And that is terrible. I don't know if i should stick with it and hope for the best, or switch back before too much damage is done. Seriously, i should be able to SDG this song easy. I am incredibly angry and want to punch babies. For the sake of infants, please help me.

But don't worry. Stop playing for a day and it comes back, believe me.

Re: I am at a serious loss
I'm looking for opinions from people who have switched their speed mods/know what i'm talking about. Stopping for a day would do absolutely nothing (I don't play everyday anyways) because my brain is stuck in some akward limbo between 1.25 and 1.50 and now I'm terrible at both.
edit - i have no need to go to 1.75. I can comfortably read everything at 1.50 now, i just get goods everywhere, even though it feels like im hitting everything perfectly.

Re: I am at a serious loss
I continued upping my speed after starting at 1.25.
It took about a day to get used to it each time. But as I was able to adjust and learn to read quicker, my reflexes tightened, and timing did as well. I recommend going all the way to 2x and learning to play like that tbh. I've been playing 2x for months now, and can't say I regret the decision. Anything slower is just TOO slow, and it's not an issue of timing the arrows... it becomes an issue of reading them. I read them too quickly and want to hit them too early. 2x gives me just enough time to see the arrow, and put it to the next beat in the song. When I'm playing with sound of course . I almost prefer playing muted. The tap-tap-tap of muh keys is all the music I need generally . Summarized: You just need to learn to read more quickly, and get used to the timing of faster scroll rates. Try your hand at 2x. |

Re: I am at a serious loss
You try AAA'ing a Synth file with sound on and tell me it's easier than with sound muted .
That's how I got into the habit of it. Trying to AAA Synth's files taught me to read arrow color on 'normal' songs, and I could hear in my head what the rhythm of the keys taps would be right before I had to hit it. I've always been more of a visual than audio person. No idea why I'm so good at Rock Band or Guitar Hero. And after 1.5x, I really just felt it was tightening my reflexes. If I were to adjust to a slower scroll rate now, I'd be able to FC probably 525+ songs I think. |

Re: I am at a serious loss
Sorry i never really made it clear. Speed/Reaction time is definitly not my problem. I know exactly what i'm seeing, it's not like im constantly trying to play catch-up. I seem to hit early just as much as i hit late.
Is there any way it could be a technical problem with my computer causing so many goods? I know if i leave my computer on overnight, the next day my PA will be TERRIBLE, but it's instantly fixed with a reboot.

Re: I am at a serious loss
I've never had "lag", or at least never visible lag. And this isn't a recent problem from updates. Anyways im going to bed hopefully someone will have said something useful by the time i wake up.

Re: I am at a serious loss
lool okay lets try a new approach
can most people switch between speed mods at will, without sacrificing PA by heaps? Post and let me know if you can/can't

Re: I am at a serious loss
It's like switching play styles, but much less severe. It just takes time to get used to a new speed mod.
I think it was just about a month ago that I switched to 1.75x. I just happened to play some hard song right after it, I forget which, but I remember being able to actually see the patterns rather than the wall of notes that I would be used to seeing and mashing on 1.5x. At first, my PA suffered, but then it got way better as I got used to the mod. Give it more than a day: higher speed mods = better.

Re: I am at a serious loss
awesome k this is what i was looking to hear. Being able to read jumbled up parts seems worth it, so i'll just keep at it till my PA gets good again. Thanks

Re: I am at a serious loss
Switch to 1.75 and play every song again. Then you will be good with a real speedmod.

Re: I am at a serious loss
I do have better timing on 1.75, that being my prefered speed mod.
Im not too shabby when i go to 1.5, but after going to 1.25 or below or 2.0 and higher, my P.A kicks the bucket. It takes a few days to adjust to a new speed mod, it did for me. |
