Well, I'm really not the kind of person that would post this kind of shit, but this is beyond reality :

I can't make my head around this video, there is so many things wrong with this kind of mentality. Who really thinks Quebecers are vermin that needs to be exterminate ? I've seen so much hate against Quebec in the last few years but this one might take the cake.

Quebec adds a shit-ton to our culture and will always be important in Canada. That being said, Quebecers have been really close to becoming a separatist state a couple of times so there is definitely some animosity there. But the "United States of Canada"...seriously!?! lmao

Well, it definitely takes courage and patience to learn any new language, even more to teach it to other people. It's certainly a step towards better acceptance of other cultures. Grats on that.

Somehow, it makes me sad that even one person thinks this way. I'm 100% sure there are honest people everywhere in Alberta. We're just focusing on the bad groups.

I don't doubt there are like 95-99% good people in Alberta. Hell my Aunt lives there and I don't hear of her being a Quebec h9er.

Whether or not this was grossly exaggerated I have no clue. That there was enough hate for this video to get on the internet, let alone be made at all makes me worry a little. Even if one person is all it takes, it still is hateful propaganda that can sway other people's judgment. It's dangerous...

Over here in Alberta, the opinion expressed in the video isn't "beyond reality" by any means.

The video is basically a very extreme rendition of the age-old "East vs West" issue (government funding and general focus on the East compared to the West). To be succinct, I highly disagree with the extreme way that the video is trying to portray Quebec, but I do understand where those opinions are coming from.

A lot of people here do think that the "East" gets most of the funding and also the spoils from the West (but that's not to say that the natural resources within Alberta has left it poor; Alberta's quite well off now). Same goes with just general "attention" of the federal government.
I won't lie, but a lot of people here will also agree that Quebec just seems to "want more", "never seem to be satisfied", etc. I definitely agree with that to an extent - at least to what I hear from the news (e.g. student tuition fees). You'll often hear of Quebec being described as a "nanny state" which I presume means that the people are overly coddled there. All too often I really do think that Quebecers almost always seem to be complaining.

I want to emphasize that these are very blanketed generalizations and by no means represent everyone, or even close to that. But yes, adversity about the "East" in general does exist here. Nothing new.

I also want to point out that the only people being interviewed in the video seem to be either in the agricultural or energy business. To be fair though, Canada's West (and the country as a whole) is a resource-rich economy, so if there any complaints as to where funding goes, it'd come from the people who'd exploit those resources. Still, the video doesn't really give a wide representation of many people.

Other than trumaestro, it seems that everyone else responding thus far comes from either Quebec or Ontario, so I wonder how many people would understand the sort of perception that comes from this side of the country. Regardless, the video itself is too extreme. The blowing up of Quebec's Fleur de Lis at the end of the video is obvious trollbait that no one here would support. It's still extreme to compare Quebec's government as being "socialist" as well.

Quebec is obviously an essential part of Canada. If I didn't agree with that, you wouldn't see me caring about Quebec separatism.

Let me give you a perspective from someone who's half québécois and half acadien.


Québec has a bad rep. There is absolutely no denying it. It's unfortunate because it's one of those cases where a small minority makes the rest of the people look bad. I'm not just talking about separatists but also people with a "I'm french and I'm holy than thou" attitude. People in northern New Brunswick and in the city of Dieppe here have the exact same mentality. They feel as if anglophones owe them something for years of oppression. Francophones have the exact same rights as anglophones, if not more. I feel like many french canadians are abusing their privileges when they want their own system for everything. It's a bilingual country, let's try to prevent things from being segregated.


Most of Québec doesn't really give a shit about separation or animosity towards the rest of Canada. Likewise, I don't think it's most people who talk shit about Québec but just a bunch of angry old uneducated english twits.

We're a multicultural country, and people need to stop acting like it's the 1960s.

My family in Québec think it's unfortunate that some people have a misconception of the people in this beautiful province. Yeah, they've got an attitude, (especially their women dang pussywhipped or what) but are some of the chillest people you'll meet.

When I drove through Montreal or a couple months ago and I was listening to the radio, there was a joke segment (french of course) that was making fun of acadians and chiac (however that's spelled) that was definitely bordering on insulting.

I know more than a couple anti-quebec and/or anti-francophone people, sadly. No one terribly racist, but there's totally underlying negative vibes and snarky comments.

The only bad experience I've had that I would relate to Quebec was when I had a stop-over in Montreal taking the train (the city that has a lot of english speakers), and I asked a random woman on the street "Est que vous avez le temps?" and she scowled at me and spoke angrily to correct me "L'HEURE". I suppose it worked because I'll never make that mistake again, although I was super pissed and it still irks me to this day. Would she have been happier had I spoken english? What if I were a tourist? ARGH, pisses me off just like subin's grammatical rant to some guy whose grammar was so bad he clearly had very little english training. You could hear the accent reading the post...I'm digressing...

I have no idea how a government could 'coddle' bmah. I don't see anything wrong with disapproving of the status quo, or 'complaining' as you put it.

Things like putting too much priority in language laws. The government can focus its efforts elsewhere. I don't think French in Quebec will die anytime soon, as such dire efforts to impose strict laws imply. It just seems like there's too much harping in that department.
