Re: How to get better at FFR
Here's my guideline to get better in FFR:
1.) Switch to spread if you haven't already. You can keep your other styles but you'll be limited on how far you go in skill. 2.) Work on your weaknesses. If you're serious on getting better then you will have to practice stuff you hate doing or else you will only be good on stuff you like to do. 3.) Stay Determined. There will be days when you don't play so well. Get used to it because it happens to everyone. Also, stop comparing scores with people better than you, you lose confidence. 4.) Optimize. Learn how to read certain patterns differently and figure out ways to hit certain things easier. (YES, IT'S POSSIBLE TO AAA CROWDPLEASER) 5.) Have no life. Sorry, i had to put this here because it's true. (lol)

Re: How to get better at FFR
Any suggestions for how to better my PA?
I can FC difficulty 9 songs, but I haven't even AAA'd all the difficulty 2 songs yet. My most impressive AAA is RainDrops. . . I have 20 AAA's, 2 BF's, and 46 SDG's out of 467 FC's. I play spread at 1.5x |

Re: How to get better at FFR
I've been split, (two hands three fingers) for about two years. I've switched to spread a year ago, and I want to know if there's a specific song that will help me make my right middle finger, (I'm left handed) stronger. Thanks in advance!

Re: How to get better at FFR
This is kind of a late reply, but in Support genre, Flight of the Bumblebee (11) is very easy to read for a high difficulty song, but has a ton of simple repeated button mashing that would certainly make all of your fingers stronger without straining your note reading.

Or you can just use your wrist.
I hate FotBB anyway. You can gain finger strength and jacking abilities simply by playing a lot - whoring a particular song to gain it quickly is really boring and your eyes will be roasted from the dandelion bg. |

Re: How to get better at FFR
^ Agreed.
FotBB is almost entirely trills anyway. The way it goes with a lot of players is that out of nowhere, something "clicks" and boom, huge skill jump. In fact, I had one last night. EDIT: The best way to play FotBB (besides indexing) is Dossar style spread (four consecutive keys), switching between index and spread. But that's just one particular case.

Re: How to get better at FFR
back when i actually played this game faithfully, i sucked because i was playing with one hand, with the arrow keys but then i was introduced to spread and that helped out alot, if u dont play spread your skill level can only go so far due to the difficulty of hitting certain patterns! also practice of course u cant forget that. put a good 2-3 years into it and u will be doing what most people cant do me however i only could AAA 10's after a year and never a master or guru song, so i gave up trying. sdg's though!!

Re: How to get better at FFR
It's harder to hit certain note patterns with one hand but it certainly isn't impossible, I'm a one-hand player, started spread today, but one-hand can be pretty easy. I don't have to focus nearly as much as I do spread, but my hand tires out pretty easily. XD

Re: How to get better at FFR
Despite general acceptance that it's easier to score well with two hands than one, one-handers do have certain advantages, namely with jacks, jumps and trills. Spread players often complain about files that have more notes that they hit with one hand than their other, giving rise to things like "left-hand bias". With one-handers, they don't have to worry about such awkwardness as much, and indeed might be said to have a bit of an advantage on songs like Counter Strike Gun Sounds, Club or AIM Anthem, which are notorious for their jackhammer sections.
There have been some rather impressive one-handed players in years past, such as Yesssss (I hope I got the number of letters right), who gained fame for passing St. Scarhand on StepMania using only one hand, and before the Big Shutdown we had Bynary Fission and RB_Quackies. The latter was even forced to switch to one-handed from spread after getting into a car accident. In the end, it's all about personal preference.

Re: How to get better at FFR
I suppose if you play IIDX and use Index, Thumb, Middle, Ring for buttons 4, 5, 6, and 7 (Index on Left, Middle on Up mapped to Down, Thumb on Down mapped to Up, and ring on Right), you could train yourself to play FFR one handed in that aspect. Otherwise you're just cutting off your potential.
I've said this a thousand times. Dedicating 1 finger to 1 key skyrockets your performance. |

2) My weakness is mashing. It's still not there but it slightly improved. 3) Of course I'm determined, why else do I play FFR? 4) I'm familiar with all kinds of patterns. 5) Not sure if I can pull this one off (especially since I'm starting college in September).
