Default hair fidgeting-I had a response!

OK, well, I'm glad the almighty have come down to smite the stupid questions away. Because, obviously, critical thinking can't be applied to something about sex differences. I mean, that would mean that all them tests which look at sex differences are stupid. (that was sarcastic)

Why on earth is it any stupider to ask a question about sex differences than to ask questions like, why do things always fall? Things like apples. That's a pretty dumb question too. Just because Titan's observation doesn't have a "Look, I found this article on some web-magazine or web-news saying that women fidget with their hair more than guys", doesn't mean that his observation is invalid, and it ESPECIALLY doesn't mean that wondering WHY that is the case is stupid. Just because it's not a hot-topic, and you think it's boring and irrelevant, doesn't mean that it can't be thought about. As if topics about the existence of a multi-verse and life after death are somehow better. We're not even equipped to talk about those topics with any certainty! But something where EVERYONE can actually think about it and put in a response, where we're all on the same grounds about a topic, that's a no-no.
Just because a question isn't earth-shattering is a very, very VERY BAD way to moderate this forum.
And to the person who decided to be smart-ass about writing a formula down, yeah, I got it, it was funny, but because I'm pissed off that the discussion was closed, behaviour has had equations put to it before, and will continue to do so, and one day, because someone put an equation to it, we'll have robots walking around flipping their hair just like girls!

Perhaps if moderators were doing some critical thinking themselves they'd realize that a critical thinking topic isn't just something which sounds smart.

It wasn't the topic of hair itself, it was his wording of it.

He didn't say "Let's discuss in an intelligent manner the reasons why females could possibly mess with their hair more than males."

He was directly asking the girls of this forum why they mess with their hair so much.

First of all, pointing out your use of sarcasm is retarded.

Second, you didn't respond to the original question at all, except to say that males and females are genetically different (because that's news).

Third, everything pyroshock said.

Is not asking someone why they mess with their hair a relevant way to start a discussion? Since when is putting the words 'intelligent' and 'discussion' into a sentence mandatory in order for someone to have an intelligent conversation about your sentence?
The very fact that they put it in CT is probably a hint that they want a well-thought out answer and not random garbage that would elsewhere be posted about it.
The moderator gave no time for discussion to take place. I could understand if nothing was coming of it, THEN close it. But unless the moderator thinks discussing sex differences isn't good enough for CT, I would have posted something about them as a response. As it is, I'm expecting this thread to be locked up pretty soon too.

WTF are you TALKING about? I didn't say ANYTHING about genetics, in my almost-post on the original topic, OR in this thread.

ALSO, pointing out sarcasm has become a habit of mine since I've taken sarcasm as truth too many times online, and I've had the same happen to me. Sarcasm is largely pointed out as such from voice inflection. I'm not speaking right now.

I'd let this thread go, your arguments are thought out and articulate. What was the reason the other thread was locked? Well, personally I believe it's just due to precedence of lockage and thus a norm was established. But if a kid has a valid question, then why not try to answer it as effectively as possible? "Why do girls always fidget with their hair?" might not be a question that delves deeply into the human psyche, but it scratches the surface to something that might...

THUS I DECLARE THIS THREAD GAME ON FROM THE LAST ONE, CONTINUE DISCUSSION!

The fact is it's not really something the requires any kind of deep thought. The guy could just as easily type in his question on ask.com and do a little research to see if there is, in fact, a significant difference between how much a girl plays with her hair and how much a boy plays with his hair. Playing with hair is a form of preening, which guys do, as well. It's known. We all get it.

Also, a question worded in the manner of the OP is only going to warrant sarcastic responses. Being the good moderator I am, I have already discussed proper forum ettiquette with the user you are so valiantly defending and he is working on it. If you are so determined to discuss this hair-play phenomenon, make another topic. Word it so that other forum-goers are not prompted to mock you, and invite titan to participate.

And finally, the edit button is there so you don't triple post. =)

He posted himself in TGB that he was posting everything in the wrong forums.

And read his post again. When you read it to yourself, do you get the impression that he is interested in female mannerisms for messing with hair and discussing why? I sure don't.

Well, I'm going to disappoint you if you think that I'm going to go into the human psyche

I was going to say that firstly, men would probably fidget more with their hair if men tended to have longer hair. Secondly, I've seen lots of guys fidget with their beards. Especially younger guys. Thirdly, I don't see older women fidget with their hair. Fourthly, I think guys tend to figdet more with other things, like pens. Fifthly, long hair is something which a lot of guys find attractive, and you can have nice long hair even if you've got an ugly face or body. Basically, I think a lot of girls fidget with their hair because it makes guys look at them. Then there's also the reason that 'cool' good-looking girls usually fidget with their hair (probably because they're too cool to pay attention in class and so start to fidget), and other girls see this and mimic it because the girls at least happen to like the way other girl's hair looks as it is constantly being re-done, and think it'll make guys look at it and like it, whether or not guys actually DO like it. I can vouch for this last reason, that I was a copycat of cool girls. (no, I'm not gay, yes, I'm female)

I triple posted because I wasn't sure when the thread would be locked, so I put out my ideas individually and hurriedly once I saw that you were actively moderating this thread. (Of course, if you were a decent moderator, I wouldn't have to worry about that.)

"When you read it to yourself, do you get the impression that he is interested in female mannerisms for messing with hair and discussing why? I sure don't."
I'm glad that you can deduce that he doesn't want to know why girls play with their hair from him asking why girls want to play with their hair.

I don't have a reason to lock a thread that is well-worded, logical, and troll-free.

If you feel I am unworthy of my position, I suggest you take it up with an admin, as throwing out silly little insults only makes you look like a silly little girl.

I'm certainly glad you have taken on this crusade, however. Perhaps I will think twice before locking a thread that is in flagrant violation of the posted CT rules.

Nice to know that moderators are free to insult people, however, one cannot respond to such insults.

OKAY.

So, this thread hasn't been locked yet because everyone agreed that it had potential. Everyone could stop being bitchy and talk about the actual thread topic.

Now I disagree. If you've got more to say, you can take it to PMs and I'll be happy to have a civilized discussion with you.
