I find it annoying too Squeek. I'm just like you in regards to this. You can see it when I play MS too. It bothers me that people just don't care about wasted points, or doing a crappier build just to be different. It's like "urgh stop being so inefficient". But, you have to learn to not care. It's the same with these desktops. It does really annoy me using other people's computers, but other than that, I couldn't care less how retarded their setups are. It only makes me wonder how they can do it, because I can't stand it. Same way that I can't stand crappy keyboards.

Also, I set a button on my mouse to minimize all. It's so much nicer than hitting startkey+m.

Hmm.. never knew about startkey+d. Minimize all just does all but my "on top windows". Startkey+d does everything and alternates it back. Interesting.

It's the same as the "show desktop" icon that appears in the quicklaunch when you first get your computer.

Hmm, setting that last button on my mouse to WindowsKey+D would be a good idea. I think I'll do that. Better than the modified alt+tab that I never use.

That's the thing, I don't ever have a ton of programs open at once. In fact, I find having a ton of programs open at once really annoying and don't see how somebody could do it. Even when I have many things open, I impulsively minimize everything, so it's never a big hassle. I don't see how you could stand to have lots of windows open at once all the time and them not be minimized. But do I bitch to you about how you're stupid for having lots of things open? No. It's just the way you do things.

My point was not that having more icons on your desktop was better. My point was that what is better to you is not better to somebody. Kinda like it annoyed me when Jason said various people's key settings in MS were retarded and inefficient. What's comfortable and good varies wildly from person to person, so just leave people alone and quit acting like your way is always the best. It's REALLY ANNOYING.

You've never done any real photoshop-related work then.

Window for the picture. Window for the layers. Window for the control panel. Window for the brushes. Window for the colors.

Yeah. You get about 5-10 windows on average. At least I do. I don't know how anyone could manage without that many unless they constantly closed and re-opened them.

When not using that, I generally have two windows open. I still wouldn't want to minimize what I'm doing in the primary window (the other window is for Media Player) to look on my desktop for something. If I remember I wanted to do something or listen to something or watch something, I don't have to, say, stop typing a reply to a thread just to access it. I don't lose my focus on what I'm doing as it takes three seconds to navigate to whatever I need to get.

And so on.

1024x768 external monitor on top, with laptop's 1280x768 below.
I can use 1280x1024 on the monitor, but that's at the cost of alot of lag.

I took your advice to clean my desktop.

I moved all the icons that I don't launch first, or don't access as much into a folder called "Desktop crap". The rest of it is stuff that I launch first, or close all my other programs before running.

Red = active window.

You'll notice that windows xp allows you to access your desktop from the taskbar.

Oh, ownage wallpaper.

Windows I always have open:

Explorer window
mIRC
uTorrent (taskbar occasionally)
Soulseek (taskbar unless I'm downloading something)
Firefox
Foobar (can be minimized to taskbar, but I never do)
Trillian container(s)

So I usually have at least 5 windows open at all times. It looks barren if I don't.

I removed the link to my music folder in my quick launch and added a kick ass toolbar.

Only reason I left SoaD in there is that it's probably one of the least questionable things in there, and it shows off the style of the toolbar very well.

I finally found a reason to change my desktop wallpaper after many years of the one I have.

I spent money upgrading my computer just for oblivion, played it for a couple of months then got bored and never went back. It's no Morrowind that's for sure.

I keep it there to remind myself how much money I wasted =[

Why do you have my laptop's wallpaper I h8 u =(

Until I saw the side taskbar I was totally convinced that it was my own laptop. It's really messy and has a load of icons on the desktop. None of them are program shortcuts either. They're all MKVs from my USB Key transfer to the laptop.

PS - that black glow behind icons is telling me that you just had the desktop refreshed before taking the screenshot. It's an annoying "feature" of Windows and I have no idea why it's there, but if you mouse over any of the icons, the shadow disappears. Selecting all of them makes them all go away.

I hate seeing the shadow. First thing I do when my computer starts up is to highlight all four icons.
