Default ITG Tournament in Ottawa (Sticky Please)

Hey all. This year I'm helping Devin organise the "July is Summer in Ottawa" ITG tournament.

I guarantee the July is Summer in Ottawa tournament will make you all Deleri(um)ously happy ;o

This is the only official ITG tournament that happens in Ontario so make sure you make it if you're anywhere near.

Update 6/6/06:
We just found out that Roxor is going to be sponsoring this tournament for the first time ever. That means awsome prizes.

The tournament is happening on...
Date: Saturday, July 8th
Where: Midway Family Fun Center
Map: GoogleMap Says...

Update 6/7/06: I can now confirm that it will be $15 registry and cash prizes in addition to what Roxor is sponsoring us for.

Hard/Expert:
1st - $200 + extra pot money
2nd - $100 + extra pot money
3rd - $50 + extra pot money

Medium/Hard:
1st - $60 + extra pot money
2nd - $30 + extra pot money
3rd - $15 + extra pot money

and LOTS of door prizes of course.

Participants can qualify for various events, depending on skill.

Best of all - I will be there, so you get to meet your all time favorite stepfile artist.

So how do you sign up for this Utopia of fun?

DDRDevman@gmail.com
and when you do, remember to give him, and post in this thread:
Name: [Alain Bryden]
Tag: [alainbryden]
Location: [Ottawa]
Division: [n00bedium]

Of course, you could just show up, but that would make it difficult to judge the number of difficulty categories we should have and the length of each event. Let Devin know you're coming and your approximate skill level.

Make plans as soon as you can. It's your Destiny, and I guarantee, you will be all Smiley that you did!

If you play DDR but you've never played ITG (In The Grove), which is essentially the same thing, you will likely find you enjoy the music and gameplay of ITG much more, so it's time to convert yourself.

The forum for this tournament is here http://www.ddrcanada.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=60

From the italicized words, I would say alot of the songs in this tourney would be Smiley songs. Anyways, can't go, I don't play ITG unfortunately... and I would stink if I did lol.

lol spoiler

yeah no I went overboard with the smiley references. It's up to whoever is going head to head to agree on the songs to be played. (actually each picks one and then the third is either agreed upon or else randomized)

And there an easy/intermediate round robin of course for awful players like you and me.

As much as I feel bad about bumping, I'll just keep giving it a shot until this is stickied.

heh, I know that seems good now, but we do plan on getting more sponsors.

I don't expect anyone else to join for now, but when we get more information this topic will actually mean something.

As for other details so far: There WILL be a medium/hard tournament a long with the hard/expert. The machine at the arcade has also been booked so the tournament is guarinteed to happen. There is a good chance that medium/hard will be single elimination while hard/expert will be double elimination.

The registration fee will most likely be $15.

As for prizes, they are predicted as followed (subject to change soon):

For Medium/Hard:

- Unknown cash prize, it may be determined entirely on registration pot money for the division.
- Sponsorship prizes

For Hard/Expert:

- $200 for 1st place + extra pot money
- $100 for 2nd place + extra pot money
- $30-50 for 3rd place (most likely $50) + extra pot money
- Sponsorship prizes

Door prizes:

- sponsorship stuff ( possible gift certificates to EB, Guitar heros set, Red Octane pads, etc.)
- Red Hot Chili peppers tickets for the concert in Ottawa (this prize is very sketchy because there's a big chance that it actually wont be one, we'll find out if it is soon though)

I'll be in Ottawa spending the summer with my uncle around that time.. But I could be there anytime from mid July to early August.. so I'd need an exact date =\

I'd also be going there for the intermediate round robin if anything rofl.

Yeah, about the whole round robin thing, since pretty much no one likes the idea of single elimination, we need a very quick way of doing the medium/hard tourney. We're trying to figure it out, but hopefully it won't disappoint too many people >_>

And the confirmed tourney day is the 8th. Despite of the requests to do it in 2 days, we'll be doing it in one.

Edit:

First off, thanks for the sticky.

Second, I can now confirm that it will be $15 registry and the actual prizes.

Hard/Expert:

1st - $200 + extra pot money
2nd - $100 + extra pot money
3rd - $50 + extra pot money

Medium/Hard:

1st - $60 + extra pot money
2nd - $30 + extra pot money
3rd - $15 + extra pot money

and LOTS of door prizes of course.

I'll update this as I get more info

ANNOUNCEMENT:

to the three people following this thread.

Now that Roxor is sponsoring us AND the organizer is making two appearances on Ontario television (A-Channel and Rogers), the tournament is anticipated to be much bigger, and so it will take place on both the Saturday in question and Sunday as well.
