It was my father's belief that we should not have a religion forced upon us from birth, but to have the chance to make our own choices. I have looked into many religions and seen many points of view, and i thought i would share mine. I believe that my father was right. Even though growing up with one religion WILL help a person overcome many obstacles and answer many of life's hard questions, i still think it is wrong. Teach your children that god has many forms, and there IS something out there that cant be explained. Tell them that god can be many different things to different people. Let the child have the chance to look into it, and choose what he/she feels is right for them. When you grow up having the bible and jesus drilled into your mind as absolute truth, it feels like brainwashing to me. Religion is a person's unique way of viewing the world, of contemplating what cant be explained, and if that view is forced upon you, without knowing that it is just ONE of many, many different views, then you no longer have the opportunity to choose a path that makes more sense to you. I believe my self to be an agnostic, a person with no definate religion, but am intersted in Christianity. It has a very good set of moral values and principals, but being raised to use my head and to think things out, i find it hard to make the leap of faith and accept jesus as "my savior". I just don't see myself truthfully making that transition. Well, that is mostly what i think. I would like to get some other views from you guys, so dont hesitate to post. but please, try to stay with the topic.
Thanks. |

Very intelligently put, however, religious discussions on this board never go well. (look out for a guy called Izzy)

I've noticed some of Izzy's, well, let's just say, IGNORANT posts in here. But his views are his own, he's got a right to be pig-headed.

I have the feeling that he has thought his pig-headedness out... but this thread isn't about Izzy.
I think it's good that you've come to that opinion, and I think it's good that you have the awareness to be able to rationally think out what you want to decide for faith... not many people are capable of that... at least not the majority. My views tend to be more pesimistic though, so for now, I'll reserve them to myself...

Thanks, that's nice of you to say. And don't worry, we're all pesimistic deep down.

Welcome to the forums... as was stated, we try as hard as possible to stay away from purely religious based threads, as they ALWAYS lead to flaming.
You seem like a nice addition to the boards though. I'm going to lock this, but that is purely to keep up the adherence to no religious threads, not because this thread itself has flaming or may in fact ever have flaming. Just about any other subject is acceptable posting material... nothing illegal or bodily harming though.
